Fender Vintera '60s Jaguar - opinions
Looking at some guitars a certain price range and the Vintera 60's Jaguar (Ocean Turquoise) popped up and I am wondering if their are any owners who could share their opinions. It is a really good looking color. I may need to hunt down one locally to try it out. Thank you

Re: Fender Vintera '60s Jaguar - opinions
I've owned the turquoise one. Probably shouldn't have sold it in hindsight, but I was upgrading to an AO jag at the time. The frerboard edges weren't rolled and the trem was a bit squeaky, but it played well and sounded great. The light pao ferro board on mine killed the look for me a little bit, but that is personal taste.
I'd happily own one again, and don't feel a US jag feels that much of an upgrade over it.

It's funny how simple things like neck color can impact wanting to play it or look at it. I feel like I have done this too.DavidG wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 8:13 amI've owned the turquoise one. I have the OTM and love it very much especially with the Staytrem upgrades…as I personally didn‘t get along well with the screw in trem (and already had the parts in my spares-drawer)
The fretboard darkens quite a bit if you oil it every now and then and if you find one with a nice grain that would be a bonus!
Pickups are nice too - they feel just a tad grittier than the PV65s which I like very much.

I've the Vintera and the Vintera HH Modified. They're lovely guitars. Kept mine stock except for the bridges, which I've swapped/modded for StayTrems. Not a trem user - just like the non-rattlyness of StayTrem bridges, and the way sounds travels over them is, for me, the sweet spot between a fixed AOM and the flimsier rocking bridges you usually get as stock.
They both feel substantial in hand, although there's no fretboard rounding. I mention that because it's very obvious - usually there's some sort of subtle slope on a fretboard edge even if it's not rounded, but both of mine feel like hard 90 degree edges. Most everything else is a joy, though, and I soon forget about the edges when I'm playing. Just something I always notice when I pick them up.
Electrics are decent; pickups are surprisingly good; lovely finishes. I seem to remember the trem locks barely holding in place when setting them up, but they haven't moved since (admittedly the arms have never been screwed and used).
My HH is sonic blue and the pau ferro looks wonderful with it. I'd go as far to say that sonic blue should always be matched with pau ferro Like said above me, you can darken it significantly with particular oils if you don't like the look of it with your particular colour choice. I find the wood itself drier feeling than rosewood, but still smooth enough to move about on.
Yeah, I'd recommend them. Can't see me selling mine and don't lust after the more expensive American equivalents.

OTM with a matching headstock is a great look IMHO.

I like mine a lot. I changed the pg from tort to parchment and put on an AVRI vibrato and mute. It's got the bite and sting I want from a Jag and is almost as good as my 2003 AVRI Jag 62.

Yeah this looks slick! You've darkened the fretboard down nicely which is my only gripe with the Vintera range, but the spot behind the nut which is clear coated shows it's original colour and this can't be changed without a lot of effort unfortunately.

I have a OTM one as well and really like it. Never had a problem with the fretboard edges. Upgraded the trem to a Mastery I had laying around (not the bridge though!), and the pickups. The stock pickups actually sounded really good but for some reason I can't leave that stuff alone. Thinking about changing them back, although I always did find the bridge pickups a bit weak - surely not a first on a Jaguar. Anyway, great guitar!

Great guitars...I have an HH Vintera (not identical, but still) and other than the pau ferro neck it's one of my faves. So easy to play, great neck profile

Played it yesterday again at the rehearsal room and with the FuzzRite the pickups were squealing quite a bit (more than my Thinline Jag with P65s did). I once took off the bridge cover for a testfit - but I remember they always did this…at certain volumes/distances to the amp. Anyone else got this problem at loud volumes?MayTheFuzzBeWithYou wrote: ↑Wed Feb 08, 2023 12:51 pmI have the OTM and love it very much…

Love my OTM Vintera Jag. Kept it stock except for an AVRI trem. Love it 350% more than the Jagmarr I used to have--prefer standard Jaguar switching to the lack of a rhythm circuit and four way switch on the Marr. Plus the Marr pickups suck in my opinion having had one for about 6 years. My Vintera is a lot lighter than my Marr was, and looks better. All around a much better guitar at least for me.
This guitar is great. If you can get a picture of the actual grain of the fretboard before you buy, that's key. The pao ferro can run all over the map, from an ugly dusty orange color to deep browns with cool blonde-colored grains running through it. I found one for sale with a gorgeous fretboard and haven't looked back.

How did you install the mute? I assume you had to drill a hole or holes for it in the body?

Re: Fender Vintera '60s Jaguar - opinions
I’m in.
I went with cream to match the pickups…and I had this strap from a jm project that came and went.
Setup was crap out the box, it’s a b stock, it has a tiny bit of wear on the otm on the headstock where it would’ve hung from a store rack, and no vibrato arm. I had a mustang bridge in the drawer so it went on for now.
I’ll spend some more time tweaking the setup and plugging it in tomorrow, but it sure looks pretty. Maybe I’ll drag it outside and get some good daylight shots.
I gotta be honest, whatever they finally settled in on for a blend of the newest poly finishes really feels great. It’s not sticky at all, and this one is not nearly as thick as the squier I got recently. Epi too, but that’s another chapter.
