Anniversary Jaguar 50th VS 60th ?

Post by Eugena » Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:50 am

Hello, everyone!

I have a question of choosing between two Jaguars. Fender Anniversary 50th Jag VS Fender Anniversary 60th Jag.
Which is better? Which was more successful? Were there any problems with them?
Or maybe it's not a good choice at all? Which instrument to choose?

Thank you!

The 50th anniversary one has the Vibrato in the wrong location so is instantly inferior to the 60th

The 60th has block inlays, which always look better in my opinion...but they are the wrong size blocks.

Both have weaknesses. One (50th) is structural and affects the sound, the other (60th) is purely aesthetic. It all boils down to which is more important.

The 50th did come in Burgundy Mist though, which is the best colour.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I am a huge Jaguar fan, absolute nut. I own 6 and the 7th is on its way.
I wouldn't go for either anniversary model myself.

50th - as Johnny says, vibrato in wrong position

60th - ugly blocks and weird colours.

All other American made Jags are superior in my opinion:

AVRI '62 commemorates the Jaguar more than either Anniversary model as it is a faithful recreation of the original '62 Jag.
AV65 is the same plus binding which is nice (dots and bound is my fave combo) and different pickups to match athe later 60s Jags
AO models are my personal favourites of the reissues
It is the same as the AV65 but has a 9.5" radius and slightly bigger frets. Depending on your personal preference this shall be better or worse than the more faithful reissues.
I've never actually played a Jonny Marr Jag but everything I've heard is positive. They are EXPENSIVE and the switching options aren't really to my taste hence why I've never gone for one.

Thanks for the reply!
And which years of AO and AVRI are better? Or are they all good?

Marr Jag if budget allows. It even has an angled neck pocket, such is the attention to detail in overcoming the Jag's flaws.

I love the option of having a humbucker too, although it's all about the neck pickup, it's beautiful.

AO has angled neck pocket also.
Comes down to what specs you prefer really, there's no particular good or bad years in these reissues as Fender have had consistent quality for a number of years now. Apparently the new American Vintage II series had some questionable quality control when they first came out, but more recent reviews suggest they've overcome this already. There's not a Jag in that range anyway (yet!) so don't worry about it.

Here to vouch for AO as well (and I own a '65, an AO, an Anderton's Shell Pink FSR Squier, an HH Vintera, an AVRI...)

I think the Squier and the AO are the best, LOL

I'm in the minority but I think the Jaguar's one of Fender's best

Standard questions apply

What Neck radius/Profile do you like
  • Vintage Deep - Marr
  • Vintage small - 60th
  • Not sure about AO or 50th
  • Vintage Radius - Marr, 60th
  • Modern Radius - 9.5 - AO, 50th
How do you like your pickups(IMHO)?
  • Vintage darker - Marr
  • Vintage Brighter - 60th, AO - PV 65 Pups
  • Hot - 50th
Trem for break angle (50th) or neck pocket for break angle (everything else)

Matching Headstock: Yes (AO, 60th), No (everything else)
