Best Marauder I’ve seen on the forum I think.

Yeah this is amazing. My Marauder should be here this week. Can't wait.

Hands down.
I can't even describe how perfect it is. It's literally two of my dream guitars combined.
The only thing that could possibly be improved (IMO) is to get proper clawed Jaguar pickups onto it to fill out the full space of the pickguard routs.

I've really never cared for maple necks with black blocks but I have to admit it, that thing looks amazing.
We are merely moving shadows.

I know it's obviously not a perfect copy of the original Type II prototype, but I wanted to make it as close to that as I could. With that in mind, I grabbed this screenshot from the youtube video where Dave shows off the Type II proto and asked Jaime to make Jag pickups that look as similar to this as possible. That meant no claws. I find the lack of covers a bit more impactful on the look that the lack of claws. Either way, it looks a decent amount different than a standard Jag pickup layout.

Oh for sure, it wasn't a criticism about accuracy. I just think the large pickguard routs and ubiquitous metal plates make it pair well with traditional-looking Jaguar pickups. Personal taste is all.smjenkins wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 3:26 pmI know it's obviously not a perfect copy of the original Type II prototype, but I wanted to make it as close to that as I could. It's still possibly the nicest Offset I've ever seen in my life.

In my brain a Marauder is a metallic finished thing with a rosewood board, so how sweet this is is extra surprising.

Thanks Mike, I'm glad you like how this Marauder came together. I didn't read your post as a dig at the pickup choice, I just wanted to explain why I went the direction I did. All the open pickguard space around the pickup is definitely "a look". I'm still coming to terms with it visually. In any case, I really appreciate your kind words.mbene085 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2022 3:49 pmOh for sure, it wasn't a criticism about accuracy. Beautiful guitar, perfect interpretation of a 70s model !
How did you wire it? Typical out of phase, or maybe some added effects?

I love this. I’m not a block or binding fan and I normally don’t like natural finish but this just shows you that the right combination of things can do the trick! I think the fact that it’s light wood everywhere (body, neck, headstock) and the black highlights just ties it all together perfectly.
I have an IBM Marauder II build and just love it to death. Such a shame these aren’t in production and affordable, it’s such a great model. I have a Jazzmaster shaped headstock though, not a huge fan of the wavy headstock but again it seems to work extra well on this iteration.
Congrats on this beauty and on joining the Marauder II clan!

Bass horn plate: Standard JM / Jag rhythm circuitRet Samzzaj wrote: ↑Tue Dec 06, 2022 2:11 amHow did you wire it? Typical out of phase, or maybe some added effects?
Trebble horn plate: On-off for each pickup and phase reverse for the middle and bridge pickups
Jackplate: Volume, tone and "lead" switch (cuts the tone and volume pots for max output)

Absolutely phenomenal build, Mike!!! Loved working on this one with you. And I'm really glad we were able to find a pretty piece for the body
