I love jazz sounds, but I'm not really good enough to play jazz properly, just fumble around with various 7th chords like someone else mentioned.

But this discussion does bring to mind Nels Cline who maybe bridges offset alternative rock and offset jazz. For such a prominent offset player, he doesn't seem to get many mentions on this forum? I've got no idea about his reputation amongst actual jazz enthusiasts, but I was a big fan of the Nels Cline Singers back in the day, and find myself humming 'Blues, too' quite regularly:

I think it goes to the thought that the tone is in your fingers. I do like the darker woody sounds that I found in the JM, while I also don’t play straight ahead jazz ,my music tends toward melody chords and weird voicings which to my ears sound better in a lower register.
When I played out more it was on acoustics, making the switch to electrics led to the JM which I found to be super versatile.
It still sounds like me but I’m having fun with different time effect pedals.
