Pickguard for Johnny Marr Jaguar

Post by galaxy08 » Tue Nov 29, 2022 9:54 am

I'm exhausted and confused by the results of my search for a quality replacement pickguard for my Johnny Marr Jag. I'd like to get either parchment, cream or mint green, and ideally I'd like it to be an actual Fender one. Don't want to futz with it to make it fit, just want a perfect drop-in fit.

Actually, is it possible to just order one from Fender directly or through an authorized dealer?

I lucked out and found a parchment one that STRATosphere was selling on Reverb for cheap, but yeah, I've had iffy luck getting pickguards for my Marrguar.

It looks like there's a Fender Pure Vintage mint guard on Amazon currently.

Yeah be careful. I ordered one from Spitfire that was supposed to fit (Marr is listed as compatible on website) and I had to file it around neck pocket and some of the screws were at all sorts of angles.

Looked good though ;D

Thanks for the intel! Sounds like it's a bit of gamble with these options. I love the looks of the Fender Vintage 65 ones, so if we can confirm they fit, I'd happily go that route.

As far as I can tell the Marr is the same as AVRI. I have a template made from a Marr. It's identical to the American Professional except the Marr has a heel truss adjust with the little cutout and for some reason has the third circular cutout and screwholes under the bridge for a mute and spring.

Nice! Thanks for the info -- and the photo. I dig that black switch tip, too.

I think any Fender AVRI guard will fit.

As already noted above, any genuine vintage style Fender pickguard should fit. You may have to loosen the screws holding the chrome control plates to move them slightly to achieve best fit with the new pickguard.

OK, then. I'll gamble the $30 or whatever and pray for the best.

Sorry slightly off topic: another perfect example of red pearloid being badass and better looking than all the other pearloids! 👌🏽

UPDATE: I can officially confirm that the Fender Pure Vintage pickguards are an exact match for the Johnny Marr Jaguar. And, mint green looks seriously cool on the Metallic KO finish. I'm quite pleased.

The Decoboom brand is a perfect fit for a Marr Jaguar. I've also had a perfect fit from Precision Guitar (seller on Reverb).

I was gonna post to say that my Spitfire pickguard that I bought from another OSG member was a perfect fit on my Marrguar but now that I've had a closer look, it could do with either a little bit of sanding down on some edges due to slight overlap on the control plates. I'm going to try to see if I can adjust the control plates first. Still, it was pretty close that I didn't notice it or it never bothered me before. :derp:
