Yeah, I'm with you. Regular telecaster is not so pretty. Telemaster Deluxe - very pretty (also pickguard/pickup wise better)

I also always preferred big headstock Strats... maybe because of Hendrix.
But out of Jazzmaster (already pretty sweet in dimension), and 70s Jazzmaster/Jaguar - I'd always choose the bigger one.

No thoughts/comments from anyone on the Strat-sized - but scallop/batwing-free - California Special headstock?

If you like the Coronado headstock, you'd like this. If you don't like the small size of the Telecaster headstock, does the larger California Special one suit you a bit better?

Flame-y

"Goooold!"

Blue

I think it looks great.

i like almost everything about the california special except the strat based vibrato, but i’m betting that is actually a decent unit. i think it’s still a great design now that thorn has moved to fender.

It has changed for me….
Over the last 40 years of being aware of specific electric guitars, I started off hating tele headstocks. I now have four of them and love them.
I loved the small Strat design - now I find it just ok - a bit boring.
I always quite liked the pre cbs JM head, but now think it the most elegant of all of them.
And I hated-hated-hated big CBS headstocks, until my head was turned by a Squier Tele Deluxe a few months ago, and it just looks right on there.
All the cheeses....

Honestly, to me the Tele shape goes with almost anything. I'm not usually a fan of the standard (small?) Strat shape, unless it's upside down like Sleazy has on his green Telemaster/Jazzcaster. And that California Special is sweet! I like the rounded head shape a lot!

reverse strat-stock is the absolute business. I just never wind up with custom necks or everything of mine would be reverse. cali special is for real an elegant future forward look for fender. I think it's much better than Thorn's pre-fender shape on that guitar.
