I think I spotted the original listing. Do I get a commission?
I don’t think I would have let this one go personally, but then again I’ve never really played a guitar with gold foils that 100% worked for me.

Yes you did- thanks for the tip! If you ever need a 'special' bro-price on a 12-string, I'll fold your commission into it.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 3:09 pmI think I spotted the original listing. Do I get a commission?

I seriously thought that I had priced it high enough that it wouldn't sell- but honestly it's worth every penny and more of what I sold it at.
Shoulda-coulda-woulda, I guess. Even though I came out of it very well, I'm still regretting it.
Definitely take a lesson from it though- I was the ONLY bidder on the ebay auction that I got it from. Marketing/audience targeting/decently composed descriptions, etc. really do make a difference. Oh, and make sure you spell the name of your guitar correctly in the listing- so interested parties can find it.

In 27 years of playing, I've never played an electric 12-string
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I played 6-string from 1989 to 1994 (when I got my Surfcaster 12.) Haven't gone back to 6 for... 27 years!
Give it a go- it might just blow your mind!

I know I will eventually, I just need to find the right moment, and the right guitar. One day. Maybe.

1. I’m an obsessive tuner and very picky about intonation (when it’s something I can control). What’s great about 12 strings also drives me nuts.
2. Bending strings (specifically pre-bending them) is a big part of my playing style. Sounds terrible on a 12 string to my ears.
3. Like Strats with the traditional 3 single coils most electric 12 strings sound more or less the same to me. I can differentiate between different specific instruments, but to my brain it’s all the same basic sound.

Re: NGD- BilT Relevator XII in Ice Blue Metallic!
I love them (and played only 12 string electrics for a couple years there – well short of 27 though).
Depending on what you're trying to do, it can be a lovely, chiming, chorused, organic, glorious, blurry mess. (Which is my ideal guitar tone).
A semi-hollow Rickenbacker 12 made solid body 6 string guitars sound boring and inert in comparison (and chorus pedals sounded like colorized black+white movies).
I'm not a fan of the 60s plinky 12-string sounds, though (aka much of McGuinn's stuff, or I like his stuff despite the thin, 2D 12 string sound he favored/invented/etc.)
I had the Bilt eBay listing on my watch list but didn't pull the trigger... It was nice enough that it deserved a full time commitment and I didn't feel I could do it.

Re: NGD- BilT Relevator XII in Ice Blue Metallic!
This is me. I have to have my 12s intonated spot-on, or it's just not worth bothering with. 12-saddle intonation is the first mark of acceptability that I look for in a 12, and all of my 'keepers' are set up to intonate perfectly. I spend half of my time playing with various levels of distortion, and yeah a badly intonated note combo causes all sorts of unnecessary garble to get in the way.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 3:21 pm1. I do a fair amount of bending- and again the setup is key for enabling that.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 3:21 pm2. Bending strings (specifically pre-bending them) is a big part of my playing style. Sounds terrible on a 12 string to my ears.
How does the old saying go- 'Different hears for different ears?'marqueemoon wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 3:21 pm3. Yeah, I get you- but I'll probably never stop trying to convert you!
(The Mormon in my nature coming out, I guess!)

Yep. I think we've traveled similar paths as far as 12-string sounds go. Drawing much more from R.E.M., Lush, Banshees, Bunnymen, etc. than the 60s 12-string heroes.cestlamort wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 7:01 pmDepending on what you're trying to do, it can be a lovely, chiming, chorused, organic, glorious, blurry mess.
