Am pro and am pro II are strat pickups.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 10:48 pmSure I just meant as a way to differentiate between typical ones and the p90 things. Denoting a guitar being MIJ is a whole other thing with its own tells though and I don’t think the strat in a JM cover thing happened on any other Jazzmasters did it? You’re right, though.

I'm relatively new to offsets in general and jazzmasters in particular (jazzy is my main guitar since 2017) but after testing different pickups I can say that fender's pure vintage 65 pickups have the best quality/price ratio out there.

Could be wrong, but I thought the Ultra also had essentially Strat pick ups man. I thought the AmPro 1 had the same idea, but the AmPro 2 with the Vmod 2s were actual JM pickups.gibs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 2:58 amAm pro and am pro II are strat pickups.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 10:48 pmSure I just meant as a way to differentiate between typical ones and the p90 things. Re: "Proper" Jazzmaster pickups
Does anyone know if the Blacktop Jazzmaster neck pickup is a proper JM or not? My Blacktop is the only Jazzmaster I've ever played, so I'm curious as to whether what I think of as Jazzmaster sound is anything like what everyone else does.

I had hopes that the Vmod 2 would be jm. But the gut shots I’ve seen suggest otherwise, it’s still a strat pickup, I think the main difference is the tap for the S1 switch for the “vintage” voice.Mondaysoutar wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 6:56 amCould be wrong, but I thought the Ultra also had essentially Strat pick ups man. Ultra is a noiseless pickup. I haven’t seen the guts of them, but I’d imagine they’d at least have a humcanceling coil mounted below the actual pickup portion. Demos they sound very anemic and lifeless compared to an actual jazzmaster pickup, or even compared to the p90 or strat under a jm cover.

Yeah I had zero interest in those guys which is funny considering how much people, myself included, voiced desire for an American Standard Jazzmaster. I knew they were ‘different’ but didn’t think it’d be as bad as “TIM SHAW (Japanese Jazzmaster Replica Replica) PICKUPS” Jesus that sucksgibs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 15, 2021 2:58 amAm pro and am pro II are strat pickups.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 10:48 pmSure I just meant as a way to differentiate between typical ones and the p90 things.
