60's Lacquer Jazzmaster neck thickness?
Picked up playing guitar again recently and I'm checking out the different models that have been released since I stopped. Back then there were only MIJ/CIJ, AVRI 62, or actual vintage JM's to choose from so it's nice to see JM's at all different price points now.
The discontinued lacquer 60's model seems to really hit a sweet spot between quality and price, but I was looking for specs on neck thickness and found these on Coast Sonic...
Neck Thickness - 1st Fret - .740" (18.79 mm), 12th Fret - .820" (20.82 mm)
Can anyone confirm this? Seems incredibly thin to me. .82" is about where I would at least want a neck to start. Does anyone have 1st and 12th measurements from their own model? If those specs are accurate I can stop looking at these as a potential buy.
Maybe it's time to just do another Partsmaster. I don't have enough posts to get into the market place here, but if anyone has a nice JM neck for sale maybe hit me up on TGP.

I have one of these. The neck is pretty thin (so those specs are probably accurate) and has a 7.25" radius. I love bigger necks usually, but this one is extremely comfortable.

Re: 60's Lacquer Jazzmaster neck thickness?
It would be great if someone could measure one. The specs on the lacquer neck were always kind of vague. It was usually described just as a "C". Not a particular 60's C, or a modern C. The numbers you quote seem very thin. Fender's current 60's style for offsets is usually the "Mid 60's C", at 0.825"/0.975" (21.0mm, 24.8mm) - that's what's on the AO 60's and Vintera 60's. Very like "65 strat C" in Fender CS's range below ...

Hopefully someone can share measurements, because these numbers just seem wrong. I got the specs from here...
https://coastsonic.com/products/fender- ... uer-finish
That's like Wizard neck thin, or Musikraft D thin. I got to handle a JM Noventa neck recently and measured it at .8715" - .8745". Felt really small and thin to me and I have small hands, so it's surprising that the 60's lacquer may be even thinner. I'm trying to hone in on what past and present models have necks I'd like. The "60's" in the lacquer model had me thinking it was something with some meat on it like the Vintera 60's or AV65. Almost pulled the trigger on one under that assumption, but glad I held off.

Re: 60's Lacquer Jazzmaster neck thickness?
I have one as well as a CVJM, three AVRI JM's, and an AV65. The Lacquer neck feels in my hand the same as the AVRI 62's, though i believe the measurements say it's smaller than AVRI size. I don't feel a difference with the CVJM other than the finish. Where i feel a real difference is going from any of those necks to the AV65 which has a larger neck profile. I had a Squier JMJM awhile back and the neck profile felt similar to the AV65 (with the obvious satin vs lacquer finish). This is entirely unscientific, just what the necks "feel" like to me. I don't feel cramped on the Classic 60's or the Classic Vibe or the AVRI's.

A 60's lacquer JM showed up for sale in my area and this comment encouraged me to make the trip to check it out. Initially I was going to pass on it because of the quoted specs, but the neck felt fine in person so I picked it up. So here are actual measurements to go into the OSG book of Jazzmaster Science.redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 7:13 amI have one as well as a CVJM, three AVRI JM's, and an AV65. 1st fret - .8381" (21.08mm)
12th fret - .9095" (23.11mm)
That's in line with specs I've seen quoted for 62 AVRI's (generic spec seems to be .82" - .90"). Looks like someone at Coast Sonic typo'd the specs by .1 of an inch. Never got to play an AVRI, but it's nice to know this is pretty much what it will feel like and that's enough to cancel out GAS for an AVRI. AV65 or AO60's GAS on the other hand...

The C60s is very much a Mexican AVRI. My musical partner has one as well and we refer to ours as MvRI’s, basically Mexican AVRI’s. I still believe it’s the best bang for buck vintage style Jazzmaster Fender has ever made.

MVRI - I can totally see that now that I have one in hand. Tint is a bit much, but I can accept it. Fret work is a lot better than I remember from MIM guitars from way back.redchapterjubilee wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 6:41 pmThe C60s is very much a Mexican AVRI. Have you ever played a Vintera JM? The neck on that was about as thick as I'd want to go, but I thought it was very comfy once I adjusted. I'm wondering if the Vintera neck feels identical to the AV65 neck the same way the C60 and AVRI neck feel the same to you.

Re: 60's Lacquer Jazzmaster neck thickness?
The Vintera necks to me felt more like the AVRI 62 (i.e. slimmer) than the AV 65s (which are definitely thicker).
In general the Vintera like seems like a revamped MIM Classic line, keeping many of the same specs.

Was that a 60's or 60's Modified Vintera you played? I was referring to the Vintera 60's with the mid-60's shape neck, which on paper should be very similar to the AV65 neck. The 60's Mod is more like the Classic Player with the 9.5" radius, med. jumbo frets, and thinner neck.

Indeed the Vintera 60s Modified and Vintera 60s necks are quite different - the "Mid 60s C" of the Vintera 60s thickens considerably more along the way to the 12th fret:
Vintera 60's JM "Mid 60s C"
1st: 0.825" /21.0mm
12th: 0.975"/24.8mm
Vintera 60's Modified JM "Modern C"
1st: 0.82"/20.8mm
12th: 0.87"/22.1mm
Vintera 60's JM "Mid 60s C"
1st: 0.825" /21.0mm
12th: 0.975"/24.8mm
Vintera 60's Modified JM "Modern C"
1st: 0.82"/20.8mm
12th: 0.87"/22.1mm
