weird hyper links
i've noticed that there are unusual hyper links in people's texts...sometimes to an ad...sometimes to another thread.
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: weird hyper links
I actually noticed that a couple of days ago on a blog I frequent. Looked odd, so I have avoided touching them.

Re: weird hyper links
actually i think it has to do with the way people post the links. there seems to be a way to post links in such a way that the system truncates the ref URL when making the link on the post.

I think I know why that iscroatan wrote:actually i think it has to do with the way people post the links. there seems to be a way to post links in such a way that the system truncates the ref URL when making the link on the post.
If you post a long link straight of, it look shortened, but it will still work.
If you preview before posting, the link change to the shortened version, not only in the preview but also in your post, and you will post the short link. Wich will not work.
When posting a long link, you have to type it again after previewing. Or it won't work.
Same goes for editing.
Don't know if that made any sense.
This one works: http://www.vintage-guitars.se/1966_Fend ... _front.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This won't: http://www.vintage-guitars.se/1966_Fend" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... _front.jpg

Re: weird hyper links
no...that wasn't what was happening. random words in people's posts would show up blue and underlined (as if there was a hyperlink there). if i went out of the page and then back in the hyperlinks might be different.
it seems to have been straightened out and was entirely my problem.

Sorry, I wen't a bit off topic there. I was actually refering to the problem that croatan mentioned.jakeisjake wrote:no...that wasn't what was happening. random words in people's posts would show up blue and underlined (as if there was a hyperlink there). if i went out of the page and then back in the hyperlinks might be different.

Whoa, that definitely sounds like malware. Glad you got it sorted.jakeisjake wrote:no...that wasn't what was happening. random words in people's posts would show up blue and underlined (as if there was a hyperlink there). if i went out of the page and then back in the hyperlinks might be different.

As for the other problem of truncated links, the easiest way around it is to use the tags - That's that they're there for.

Old thread but is there a solution for this problem?
It is not nice to read these things when most of the links are broken.

Re: weird hyper links
The solution is for people to use the [url] tags as they were intended, and actually proof-read their own post/comment once they hit the 'Submit' button.J0K1 wrote:Old thread but is there a solution for this problem?

Re: weird hyper links
also, a less confrontational solution would be "if you're going to forego using the URL tags and let the system do it for you, be aware that you cannot preview or edit your post. just submit it and move on"

Re: weird hyper links
I put links in this way:
Example
"...I found an interesting article you guys might like..."
Result
"...I found an interesting article you guys might like..."
It won't ever break, no matter how many times you preview or edit.
