Clicking scroll wheel on mouse only goes up & down in Firefox

When attempting to click and scroll on a large image to view the off-screen portions, I'm only able to scroll up and down, not left or right.  Am I describing that clearly?  Any idea how to fix this in Firefox?  I'm able to go in all directions on other forums, and I can do it on this one in IE.  It's minor, but it's driving me nuts!

When a file is too large to display, there is a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of where the photos are. Scroll down to the bottom of the photo and you'll see the bar within the actual thread - move at will.

Yep - I'm aware of that method.  Just hoping to use the autoscroll feature in more useful manner.  When there is a picture that is both too wide for the screen and too tall, then you have to scroll down, scroll over, scroll back up to look at it, etc.  I'm just being nit-picky.

What version of FF are you guys using?

I'm on version 2.0.0.6, pretty sure it's the latest one.

(...Decimals don't work like that...  )

I tired to find something but no joy.  Try a little Google searching.  I have a feeling it might just be a setting that needs to be changes for that application only.
