Rule request - Keep prices visible
Inspired by another 'let me get this off my chest' thread in this section, my pet bugbear is when OPs change the asking prices in 'for sale' threads to SOLD.
It seems to me it'd help a lot of people out if they could reference recent and historic sale prices of gear they may be looking at selling (or buying) themselves.
Changing Item X - £250 to Item X - Sold for £250 in the OP could be useful information for many, and really easy to do, whereas Item X - $OLD is not really of any help to anyone (other than those who hoped it was still available).
Come on folks, if the original asking price wasn't a state secret why not keep it up there for posterity?

Yes. I mean, I keep an eye on the prices of guitar related stuff all the time. It would be helpful to cross reference. It bugs me not to know what I could have bought something for, not because I really care about the deal, it just tells me what is possible when/if I'm ready to make a move.

I don’t hate this idea.

I too, agree.
Actually the idea from ancient OSG times was that sellers would leave the prices on after items sold...but it is really hard to enforce.

I'm definitely guilty of this and will endeavour to stop from now on.

Agreed 100%. I'm not sure why anyone goes to the extra effort to remove it.

Pulling prices down I somewhat get, but I find it annoying to see entire for sale posts taken down with just “$old” left as the post title.
I like to look at pretty pictures.

the problem with keeping pics up is that one can quite quickly run out of space on a site like imgur (with a free account anyway). pics need to be deleted to upload more, so the links die.
another forum i sometimes look at is very strict about people not removing asking prices from FS posts. doesn't matter what price you agree over PM, you need to leave item descriptions and asking prices up for posterity.

Huh, I thought this was already a rule...

Re: Rule request - Keep prices visible
THANK YOU ...this is my pet peeve on other parts on the internet, I've never said anything because I feel it would get scoffed at but it is really nice to know the market prices of things and what sells at what price and how quick it sells at certain prices. It doesn't matter to some but for others it does and I am one of those. xD

Corollary request: I wish people wouldn’t change thread titles to “Sold - please delete”. I’ve never been on a forum where mods deleted threads. There are plenty where threads (particularly FS/T threads) expire after some inactivity, but no one is going around actively deleting threads. It’s a silly “request” (in my opinion) and it makes searching for historical purposes that much more difficult.

To be honest, I'm probably guilty of this myself. I want to be a better person!johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 1:12 pmI'm definitely guilty of this and will endeavour to stop from now on.

FYI, I've gone ahead and updated the rules to reflect this request. Please let me know if I should amend the update in any way.

Re: Rule request - Keep prices visible
Maybe not about this, but as I was reading the rules, I noticed that there was a "use the best English you can" section. The other day I noticed a couple people discussing in Swedish, and I thought that was pretty cool.
Why not put something on there saying all languages are welcome? I doubt it will matter much, but I would hate for people to think this is an English language only forum.
