Would also be up for a whip-round as I love this place and would hate to see it ruined by bots and the looming dead internet phenomenon.crazyzeke wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 2:56 amI notice there's a lotttttt of guests shown every time I check the page footer (orders of magnitude more than registered users online basically always) so I'm wondering if it's a hosting issue, too much traffic. If that's the case and there was a whip-round for donations I'd happily contribute $10-20 because I like this place and I always learn something from people here on a regular basis.

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
The guests actually isn't wildly unusual. A lot of them end up being search engine crawlers. 58 users is almost nothing for a webserver's handling capabilities, though.crazyzeke wrote: ↑Fri Apr 26, 2024 2:56 amYep, problems here too, with Safari on a MacBook Pro specifically but also Firefox, and it happens at home and elsewhere so it's most likely a site issue. I've had to log back in a few times as well.
Average load to do "egosearch" (aka Your posts) and Unread posts is between 20 and 60 seconds. Fortunately I usually combine checking OSG with my first coffee of the day so I can just have that while waiting, but when it takes the same again to post a reply it's kinda crazy.

Yep, super slow here at the moment too.
In a way I actually don’t mind, because it encourages me to get off the internet and do something ‘real’.

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
Agreed, perhaps it's either a) luck or b) powers that be have done some server-side/hosting related stuff to fix it (probably turning it off and on again).

It's funny because we used to have TVs on the walls in our old office (before I had my own individual office in a different building) and this is what we had on the TVs above our workbenches.

*theme from IT Crowd plays immediately in my head
Ah, days back when Graham Linehan still had a career still the show was awesome and the title music/sequence especially.

Re: OSG site slow to respond?
Suspect it's due to the absence of those 58 'guests' trawling the site. There were 2 last night and 11 now.

Been randomly very slow here the past week. Lots of timeouts, especially when trying to post.
