'63 Jaguar project.
OK, I'm jumping on the bandwagon here .. everyone's doing Jag projects, so why not me!
I've been collecting '63 Jag bits for about a year now, just snagging pieces here and there as I find them. A couple of months back I had found both a neck and body separately on ebay. The neck had a white headstock refinish and the body a really off looking attempt at sunburst. Here they are together, just before I sent them off to Curtis Novak for a refinish and forgot about them for a bit:
A little while ago, they came back at a really busy time for me and were stored with the other bits and pieces until I could drag the whole project out and take stock before pushing on.
So I went looking for it in a spare moment today .. ah, this looks promising ..
.. yep, definitely the right case ..
.. and there she is:
Curtis did a very nice job on the BMM refinish .. the artificial light here doesn't do it justice ..
You can see remnants of the previous bronze-coloured finish down in the routs (I asked Curtis to leave the inside of the routs since you can just make out the '63 pencil date in the trem block rout) ..
Matching headstock, very nice ..
Funny how all these Jag necks were made on the first of the month .. ..
Not much grain pattern on the neck, but a nice dark piece of rosewood ..
Beautiful tort guard, courtesy of our own Soiouz ..
Any other stuff in here?
Yep, vintage pups, trem block, mute, shielding and bridge .. '63 neckplate and repro Klusons from Marc .. repro vol/tone plate and knobs from Doug ..
Vintage switch plate and rhythm circuit plate with some spare wire ..
.. satisfyingly cruddy looking old pickups and covers:
So there we are. Just a few more aftermarket parts and I can get going .. some extra cloth-covered wire, a nut blank, trem block screws, pup claws, and so on.
More soon, I hope .. this'll be my first Jag and I can't wait to hear how it sounds!

What a lovely Jag!
I'm not a fan of BMM, but I think I just changed my opinion......

Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

Wow dude! That is amazingly beautiful. The BMM and that lovely tort PG spell perfection for your Jag. I eagerly anticipate its finished state...

Re: '63 Jaguar project.
Good one Jon ... decal looks great, as do the phiotos in general...
remember ... lots of photos and take notes where you come up against a problem or what ever....
btw is the guard a nitro or mid 60s plastic guard ? will shinkage be an issue....
For my 66 Foam green Jaguar project currently underway, I have two white guards, one a 65 one a 63... the 63 has shrunk so much it is basically unusable.

That looks great! BMM needs to be represented properly, and you are just the man to do it!

Re: '63 Jaguar project.
Thanks everyone!
Sook, I think the guard is a nitro one .. at least it looks similar to nitro JM guards I've had. There does seem to be a slight amount of shrinkage but nothing unmanageable.
northern_dirt, I guess that Novak would probably prefer to discuss prices with you himself because it would vary depending on the project, but I found the cost of the refin quite reasonable. I don't think I'd use him again from the UK because the international shipping prices have escalated recently, but if I was in the US I wouldn't hesitate. I chose him for the refin because of the BMM refins you can see on his website; it's a colour that's quite specific and wouldn't work if it was a little off I think.
stereordinary, I didn't realize you were going BMM as well? Cool!

Beautiful! The color combo's gonna look awesome. I bet it'll play great too. Are those new frets? If so, what size/kind did you go with?
