Electric XII project
well I sold my sunburst XII the other day to mezcalhead (the offsetguitars forum electric XII family grows!) as I needed some money quickly to buy equipment for a project I just started with a friend.. I was looking at a bunch of gear I need and some I didn't but then came across this stripped XII on gbase, it wouldn't have worked at their listed price but I decided to take a shot and make an offer for an amount I could still work with.. they accepted!
I plan to strip it and refinish it, I've already sourced a nice silkscreened decal..
I'll just have to decide if I want to do it myself or save up and have it done professionally. I'm leaning toward giving it a shot myself.. I'll be reading the refinishing threads here, on reranch, and asking some questions so any experienced volunteers who don't mind me picking your brain will be very much appreciated!
Update: April 2nd
it arrived today.. not without the standard headache that tends to come when dealing with UPS but whatever.. it's here!
I'm in a bit of a rush so I'll just post the pics, it played alright but the action was insanely high and I decided to just take it apart and get started sooner than later.. when I got into it I noticed some blue paint and then a few bits of brick red, further inspection showed some idiot sprayed all over the electronics so I could use some advice on what to do with them. Got the shielding off and as expected the original finish was Sunburst and it has a double ES stamp as well because it's extra special
extra special amount of work ahead of me
Update: April 12th
I haven't done much yet as I need to get some money together for supplies, stripping and sanding will come next.. for now I cleaned up the pickguard, pots, jacks, control plate, switch and shielding. I still have some work to do in the tough to reach spaces but they look a lot better.. I just need some polish for the top of the guard to remove the scratches. I'm going back and forth on the finish again, I was set on Black and then changed my mind to IBM which would require I sell the guard and get a white one.. now I'm unsure again, at least I have some time before I place my paint order

This is going to be really awesome. I can't wait to see it come along. I've said it a million times before, but black + tortoise =

Re: Project black XII
Great score - are you going to try and clean that existing pickguard up?

Re: Project black XII
black/black with tort guard is my favorite look for an offset.. I think it'll turn out well
the guard is definitely a question mark right now.. I'm going to try and clean it up, if it doesn't come out well I'll be on the hunt for another one but I hope it's salvageable

Re: Project black XII
Woah, sorry. I got so thrown off when I saw/heard about the pickguard that I didn't even get to comment with my thoughts on the project or giving you a "good luck" so I'll do that now.
This project will be awesome. I've always wanted a black with tort XII. It'll look beautiful when completed. Goodluck!

Re: Project black XII
Daydream, looks like a great project. Do you mind sharing your source for the decal? It looks nice, and most of us with projects are always looking for a decal source.
Thanks,
DB

Re: Project black XII
hey that´s great news justin! congrats!
i´m curious about the guard... did they spray a solid color over it, or did the top layer melt to form that color..?
