cleaning old tuners

Restoring an old Jaguar- this cat had been abused, trying to get all the original parts back together as original/vintage as possible.
Neck stamp is 1 5 SEP 66 B, bound and blocks, but pots date to 52nd week 1973 (7352). No date in trem pocket, and pickup pole pieces are flat, not staggered, so it's a bit of a wild card.

Tuners are Kluson Deluxe, and like some other chrome parts, show some surface rust- what's a good approach to clean that up? I've heard of soaking in Coke, CLR, or naphtha- any and or all of the above? After whatever, I thought I'd blow them dry, and spray a bit of white lithium grease in the tiny lube hole. Thoughts?

Also the screws holding the tuners to the headstock are round head flat blade screwdriver type- not Phillips head. That seems at odds with every other screw on the thing. What did Fender use back in the day?

I also have the mute ashtray, but not the screw, washer/nut on the end- anyone know what the length of that screw was? I assume it didn't thread into the mute, just passed through. Correct? Thank you, guys!

Your best starter for chrome is aluminium foil wadded up, wet with a drop of water. Makes a very gentle but effective rust scourer.
Klusons would be nickel plated though, right? Might need to use a little baking soda and water on a cloth?
