What about the length of the bolt on the mute? I have the mute, but need to replace the bolt/star washer/ nut.

I did get a bag of the grub screws for the height adjustment, but after soaking the bridge in CLR and then WD 40, I find half the individual saddle height screws are either still frozen solid or the allen hole stripped- so I'll just leave it in the case and go with the Marr bridge. Planning ahead way ahead- where would one find a tremelo arm for a vintage mid-'60's Jag? There are so many options and remakes and versions Fender puts out it's overwhelming. Looking for one to work with the original trem unit from the mid '60's. Thanks!!

I make it about 16.3mm (about 0.63") for the whole bolt, and about 12.5mm (hair under 1/2") for the thread.

Does the bolt actually thread thru the ashtray, or merely pass thru and secured with a star washer and nut?

More on the '66 (neck date) Jag I'm trying to resurrect.

Now it appears the tuners may need replacement- Kluson Deluxe, nickel finish. They look like the Fender Road Worn re-issue ones, but a couple feel loose and slippy, another tight. I'll lube with some spray lithium (off the neck of course), but should I need replacements, what will fit? Seems I've read somewhere about different screw patterns and such- I'd like keep the original bushings and not drill any new holes for screws. Something original looking. ??

It just passes through and the nut/washer holds it in. Note the vintage screw that goes against the plunger is a little longer than the reissue (at least my vintage mute is). However, I don’t doubt that has a big impact on function. I would think either should work fine on a vintage body.

And if it doesn't, the fix is simple - just file down a thin shim of something (coin, maybe?) and drop it down the hole to lift the whole plunger assembly slightly.

There's also the Staytrem arm, if you follow the plan to add a Marr bridge and go for something "better"; since you don't have the original arm anyway.
