I see it as a challenge …whether it‘s doable ot not to put together an affordable vintage mustang parts bass for less than 1.5k. I got the following package for 200 Euro. This is going to be a slow progress thread ;) Vintage Mustang Bass prices are insane so I‘ll give this a try…

Definitely doable, especially if you're not a purist.

Hyped to see how this develops. My very first electric guitar was a Mustang Bass, and they still have a very big place in my heart.

This sounds like a really cool project! Are you going for a specific era of vintage Mustang bass? While I normally play a Jazz or P bass, I love the thump I get from my Mustang. Such a distinctive tone. Plus, it’s the only bass that people ever ask me about (or ask if they can play. People always want to play it! Maybe because it’s so cute? Or just because it’s not yet another Jazz or P bass?).

It IS crazy how the prices have gone up, especially considering I got my ‘76 Mustang bass thrown in for free when I bought a Bassman amp from a guy back in the 90s. It did have to live in my garage for several months, while it aired out from the cigarette smoke it had been stewing in for most of its life. Even now when I open up the case for the first time in a while, I’ll get that whiff of stale smoke.

If you still have the mute around would you be able to make some quick measurements of it for me? I've been interested in possibly making a clone of one for my Vintera II mustang bass.
