About Fiesta Red?

Post by wastedyouth » Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:40 am

I am trying to decide on a color for my '63 Jazzmaster restoration. Fiesta Red seems to photograph well, I love its orangey tomato red appearance, especially with tortoise guards. However, the only examples I've seen in person are the Dave's Guitar '62 Reissues which was glossy salmon pink, and a custom shop Strat that still leaned more pink in tone but was more more mellow. My biggest fear is sending it off for finishing without a good point of reference. My question then is whether the color ever did take on the orange-red tone I see in photos? Does it fade to pink over time? Finally, recommendations for nitro fiesta red finishers?

Fiesta red to me looks like tomatoes soup made with milk instead of water. Lighter red. None of mine are pink.

Fender Custom Shop 1962 Jazzmaster Journeyman Relic and Closet Classic. I think this shows the pink tone I am talking about. The few I have seen in person look like this.

I remember a band mate having this bass, or one like it. Beautiful faded colour

Only heathens make tomato soup with water! Vegans too , I guess.

I think the red tort makes fiesta red look more salmon; in other words, two reds cancel each other out with the other colours in them emphasised, so tort will look browner, fiesta will look orangier. Mint on the other hand brings out the red, whilst a white guard will make it look a bit darker.

@FrankRay I think that could be a definite factor in addition to the tonal differences. I briefly had the Daves Guitar Shop ‘62 Reissue, which has a white guard, and it could appear quite red or pink in different lighting. It seems to me the current color formulation Fender is using is not like the examples posted above.

By far my favorite red. I have one of the Dave's TS Teles in Fiesta, and I love it. I call it the Tomatocaster.
