1964 Mustang resto

Was absolutely stunned to be able to find this 1964 Mustang, was really a dream garage sale type situation. Definitely will be doing a full resto. Wondering a few things, the previous owner said someone had contacted him at one point saying it belonged to a specific artist. Is there any way of finding that artist with the serial number apart from the ole google search.

Once I start refin would I be a monster to not choose the original Dakota red it once was. Was hoping a nice SEAFOAM or daphne.

On the artist thing... The patches on the inside for The Canadian Downbeats, after a quick Google, were a surf band in the late 60s/early 70s. Maybe start there?

Well, it's going to be a refin anyway, so I would opt for Daphne based purely on liking that colour more.

To be fair, a 60 year old dakota red with patina, uneven aging, nicks and other wearmarks, *has character*. A fresh dakota red is just a flat boring red, and it was the economical choice back in the 60s for an economical guitar. To be clear, it's Candy Apple Red without the silver/gold undercoat that is essential to the depth of that color. The point being: with a refin, go big or go home. We don't need to recreate a boring color for the sake of authenticity

I, as a rule, thoroughly hate red guitars but have somehow ended up with two 60s red Fenders that play and sound fantastic. Classic serendipity.
