Well my brother shipped it out yesterday. For now it's only waiting and hoping... :bored:

I just spoke to the manager of Anton Newcombe to find out if he or the Brian Jonestown Massacre have ever had any problems with their Vox Ultrasonic guitars since 2016 e.g. with touring and the cites rosewood restrictions. I asked him if their instruments were evere stopped or checked since the rules were enforced. He replied to me yesterday and stated:

"To my knowledge we have never had any problems with the guitars during touring be they in Flight cases on a bus, in a van or truck and on all international flights, hope that helps."

Anton lives in Berlin too, so this sounds positive for you! Let me know how you get on and what your brother put on the customs form. ;)

Nothing so far but it can easily take more than 2 weeks, or more. The 2 old fuzz pedals he sent me last month took about 18 days. Just hope it doesn't get caught up in customs.

Now, don't take me as a reference, i suggest, as I really don't know how it's going to be with you in the post-brexit UK :bored:

I'll keep y'all posted

I know... the brexit thing is tiresome and customs seem tight in the UK. Thomann, have mentioned it on their website and an upcoming guitar auction are now talking about the rosewood issue for export. I know they should, so they are doing their job, but a few months ago during a similar music auction they didn't mention a thing. Therefore, I assume that customs are attentive:

Just for a bit of perspective, and to illustrate the greed of some people...

There's a guy who used to be quite active on a Vox thread over on Facebook. He got banned for overstepping the mark in his pushiness when trying to buy old gear from people, and because folk basically saw how much he was trying to rip people off.

Anyway, he's selling an Ultrasonic, in very good condition, for 5000 Euros!! That's after a recent 34% price drop too. It was original on sale for 7500!!! Madness!!

He sells through Reverb & is based in Denmark.
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Yeah, I saw his guitars advertised this week and they were listed last year too. He live in Aarhus and while I've never dealt with the guy, I have heard stories about him.

One last question about Vox guitars from the guys in the know on here. I never thought about asking this question before, but what type of wood was used for the body of the italian made Vox guitars e.g. Grand Prix, Cheetah or Ultrasonic etc? Not of any reason other than curiosity.

I can't help with the bridge, but I "think" the Ultrasonic is Italian made (Eko? Crucianelli?) Original bridge looked kind of Jm-ish, but a tad wider and deeper grooved saddles. (although I'm no expert on the subject) I think I have an original bridge cover of this type of guitar somewhere in my parts bin...
(Looks like a Jm bridge cover, but a tad wider and higher legs)

I think it will be okay! Did you get the bridge sorted, so you can get it up and running?

Yes now IT MOVED ;D
as for now I've decided I'll borrow the one from my old Hagström Viking, to get myself an idea of how high and big it will have to be etc. Stay tuned!
