Quick question - How is the flat rhythm cavity shield supposed to be grounded to everything else?  By a wire connecting it to the point on the other shielding where the neck pup is grounded?  (you can see how it was grounded on the pics I added last night.)

This is my first time working with a guitar that has a flat shield up there instead of a tub, and I can't seem to find a pic or diagram that shows that.

Hopefully I'll get most of this done today.

There is usually a wire going from the bottom of the flat cavity shield to the neck pickup shield.

In your last picture you can actually see where it was. (upper left corner of the neck pu's shield)

I like the finish (or what's left of it). I'm just curious as too how much this relic cost you...if you don't mind me asking.

Thanks, I see what you are talking about now.

I'll PM you.  It was a fair price, but I'd like to invite the previous owner to look at this thread and would rather keep the sale/price out of it.

Looking good!! Its amazing how far you've taken it from those first few pictures. Glad to see most of the reds gone. You've done an amazing job on the circuit tub. Looks just like mine.

The body looks fab. I'm glad you're leaving it & not refinning it. Can't wait to see the finished product. Take your time. It'll look great!

Almost done!

The original cap on the rhythm assembly was cut short and extended with plastic wire, but it still works fine.  Otherwise everything checks out and is correct for 1962.

I didn't have any green cloth wire, but I had the other colors, so I wired up the guard subbing black for green.  Bright new wire:

The pickups are covered in a really sticky, translucent amber substance about 5mm thick along the bottom, with masking tape on top.  I'm leaving them as is for now, other than changing out the leads for cloth.

Neck and Klusons:

I lost the sun for the day so no final pics till tomorrow, but it's altogether and plays and sounds great!

Finished!

I'm very pleased with how it came out.  The neck is wonderfully worn with a great profile and is a perfect match to the body.  It also sounds like a jazzmaster should, and between that and its looks, it's a winner.  It's hard not to play it when you see it.
