A case of the baskets...

Post by fever606 » Fri Jul 23, 2021 11:42 am

To be quite honest, I'm not really even sure where to start...

I guess that's one way of increasing the angle behind the bridge... :fp:
Is it a Jag?

:D I laugh because it hides the tears…

Yeah… I believe it to be 60s (which is why I out it here instead of Mods & Projects) so hopefully I can get a plan together to get this back in fighting shape…

That's bizarre!

Did it come to you as just the body?
Was there enough wood there to have enough depth for the trem to work?

You could take it to a woodworking place that does thickness sanding and have them sand it down so that you have a flat surface to glue a 1/4 or 3/8 slab of alder onto (or more? not sure how deep the damage goes!)

Yeah, just the body... :squint:

There's only about an inch of depth left in the vibrato cavity... I test fit a Squier unit and it doesn't seem to rub anywhere, but not sure how that would go in practice.

And thanks for the sanity check... my gut was saying basically to sand or plane it down level behind the bridge and across to the rhythm circuit cavity and then laminate fresh wood on that I could then shape correctly. Looks to only need about 1/4" (putting a straight edge across the pickup cavities and bridge posts and measuring down) so... not great but not awful.

Best as I can figure it was originally sunburst... the white is over the blue, which is over the red, which is over the "orange"...

Curious to see what becomes of this body. It would have been a good match to the heavy metal Jaguar neck I fixed up a while back!

Well it’s been a year and I haven’t made any progress on the body, but I did get this ‘65 dot-and-bound neck to join the party…

This is kind of awesome. I would be tempted just to roll with it.
