Isn't this a regular production model?
yeah, you could buy it with or without the pickup and wiring harness.
Hence the name I guess. I’ve never seen an “unconverted” one on the wild though.

Imagine being that kid in the 60's excitedly opening your guitar-shaped present at Christmas to find it's missing all the fun stuff
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I was expecting worse when I clicked that. It's a shame it's been stripped but overall it's in pretty good shape really compared to some of the war crimes in this thread

Yeah true it definitely could be worse. It’s just a shame they ruined that classic finish just to expose such an ugly piece of alder lol. Also apparently the previous owner glued down the pickguard for whatever reason

Don’t you glue your pickguard to the body? It improves the tone, man, because the body and guard can vibrate as one.

I could just about abide it as an attempt at art. Until that bolt sticking out at the top of the body. Ouch.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

It's pretty gnarly looking but the mods are really cool, I spot :
- lower octave strings for the 3 bass strings
- separate bass pickup for these strings
- 3rd bridge for the sonic youth bell harmonics, that can be lifted or not next to the neck pickup
- custom pin bridge to allow for intonation of the added strings
The other metal parts probably did something at some point.
In any way, it's ten times better than most of the guitars reshaped with a chisel to look like a potato that are the true heart of this thread!
