In this link it is said the sg3 have only a plate under thé third pickups and not a another magnet under it (page 17)
Also it seems the first era case haven t the zippered bag but a more regular trap
I completely forget to look if i have stamp under thé trem, in thé neck pocket or on the neck ,will see another time when i have to disassemble it

No from reverb (where there is little protection for buyer ) ,i didn t know buyee before i discover it one week ago with a link to arm maker (who stop making them ,he sols the rod for )
My seller make monney since the auction with reselling it(he have buy the 21/ 12 and i have buy it thé 15/01 but at this time don t know buyee )
Do you have already use buyee cause it is really attractive ? (but need to be carefull cause Japanese people not seems to be really carefull with guitar,they are sold dirty,with missing parts, with no assurance they work and no return allowed if ,sale in state of pics,need to search defect before buy and they all said don t know product, they are not expert ........ Buy at own risk indeed)

I made another discovery ,some early 66 have différents pickups Pôle screws
The head have cruciforme totally open at side not like the later one where the ph head is inside

don't know when the change happen (in the middle of 66?),but when i first see this i am scared the pole screws of the 66 where not original ,but as i have seen more than one like this ,it is is not a mod but a yamaha change

Is there a source for these trem arms that anyone has found? I’m working on maybe getting another SA50 but it doesn’t have the arm and that’s kinda the whole point of these guitars for me. I’ve found nothing on google so doesn’t look too good and of course the insert side is a weird uncommon shape, but at least they’re pop in

There was a guy on Yahoo Japan making nice copies, but he seems to have stopped.

I have an incomplete setup (bar + most of the trem) on Reverb now - let me know if you want that with an OSG discount.

I am trying to make a few... Coincidentally, today I have bought plenty of correctly sized 'arm' but the problem I am trying to overcome is sorting out how best to fit it to the vibrato assembly.


I have an SA-5 complete vibrato setup so I can use that to correctly establish the shape of the new arm and check how it fits.

I have an SA-50 with partially correct vibrato parts but incorrect arm. This one will be done first.
Then I have another SA-50 which missing arm but haven't checked yet what is underneath to see if a new arm can be fitted.

I have an incomplete SG-2 (same vibrato) missing the chromed dome fastener and the parts 'under the hood' are stuffed (someone stuffed the thread). This needs some serious thinking on how best to fit a new arm to the vibrato assembly.

I’d assume the weird awkward part would be forming the tapered part on the insert end - pics don’t look anything like fender or anything. I’ll be standing by holding my breath in the hope that you nail it and I can get one

Very interested. I have trems with missing arms, missing collets, missing nuts etc. The only Yamaha with a properly working arm is my SA-5 and it makes me sad I can't use the arm on all my yamaha's.

I have a beatup sg5 that I'm trying to get pickups for. But I have 0 idea on what style I should put. I was thinking jazzmaster or mini humbuckers or just 3 strat pickups. But I feel swamped with all the options out there lol

humble suggestion: Strat size P90s would be closest to the originals I think.

Okay, just so you can start breathing again... I think I have nailed it but not in the way you think... Solution works for both SA-50 and SG-2

I am making my own collets and vibrato arms now from 304 S/S. On the photo you see one mounted, finished & polished collet with the vibrato arm inserted. The arm sits 'tight' in the collet but turns freely and easily with a little hand pressure. The nuts are temporary as the final ones haven't arrived yet.

The two collets next to it are also finished with rounded top and all polished. The collet in the foreground needs finishing and cutting to length.

I am waiting on delivery of the 304 S/S nuts and the vibrato arm tips which are coming from Shanghai which is in lockdown...

Bending the vibrato arm is a pain and I will need to make some templates for that.

While it all looks easy, there is quite a bit of work involved, especially in making the collet.

That doesn’t sound easy at all!

Mine had all the guts stripped out, or at least the collet and the top nut thing. I found that an offset vibrato collet fits in the little hole, so I reconciled to just tack the properly sized nut onto the bottom of the trem so I could screw in the collet from the bottom and voila - problem solved without a bunch more investment and if I do need to replace anything I’ll be like $10 all around or something.

Thought I’d pass the suggestion along as it seems like it’ll be great when I get the guitar back
