I just thought the originals were just strat pickups. I’m all for suggestions cause I was thinking of doing strat pickups and have them wired like the fender california specials and add switch to add the neck position 1 & 2 so I can have neck/middle/bridge and neck/bridge in additionMatthewK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 10:30 pmhumble suggestion: Strat size P90s would be closest to the originals I think.

(I don't know how they sound but if it's P90ish it would be like my SG3.)

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
I read that as the offset vibrato collet does NOT screw into the existing thread. It merely fits in the 8mm hole. IMO that is going back on the initial Yamaha design and might be an inferior solution?Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 2:27 amThat doesn’t sound easy at all!
I found that an offset vibrato collet fits in the little hole, so I reconciled to just tack the properly sized nut onto the bottom of the trem so I could screw in t
My collet will screw into the existing, original Yamaha thread, thereby providing additional stability.
I want the smoothest vibrato possible so stuck with original design as best as possible. I ll do a detailed post once I have it all operational in the reassembled SG-2

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Oh yeah let me be clear - mine was missing any threaded part, so there was only a hole there anyway. I’m back and forth on whether I should just weld the collet to the thing or weld a nut to it that I could then screw the collet into. The latter seems like the smarter option. I guess I should also make clear that I haven’t finished this yet, but that’s where I’m at in terms of figuring it out.
Your work is really awesome though and I’d much rather have your vintage correct part if possible but some previous shithead owner lost the parts from mine to make that work.

Wow, looks like someone put a drill bit in it to remove the thread and make it fit another part. The vintage correct part will no longer work as intended in that 'widened' hole anyway.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 5:28 pmOh yeah let me be clear - mine was missing any threaded part, so there was only a hole there anyway. What is the new hole diameter?
And what collet you are intending to use? (link?)

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
What would keep it from working? The second I got it off the guitar and saw the guts of the trem it hit me immediately that I could just attach a collet thru that little oval hole and weld it in place. The one I plan on using is just one of the ones from my Squier offsets that got replaced. I don’t see how it wouldn’t work/deviate significantly from the OG. The collet/nut sits flush against the metal from the underside of the trem and the collet is definitely small enough to pass in and out of the hole thing in the body with lots of room to spare so what’s wack about that?
My buddy is making pickups for it right now otherwise I’d post pictures

Re: The Unofficial OSG 60s Yamaha SG Thread
Does anyone know if a Ural trem arm will fit the SG2/3 collet, or if a Ural collet will fit the SG2/3 trem? I've always wondered if these trems were separate manufacture or if Ural bought Yamaha overstock.

Gavanti,
Yamaha collet nut
URAL arm
URAL arm will fit in Yamaha collet and snug up, but don't know how you will feel about ergonomics. Everyone's preference is different.
All the following are URAL.
I would have included URAL specs, but could only locate the arm because I had recently been trying this very thing out. If I can find the rest of the tremolo system, I'll post some specs
Regards,
Mark
