Specifically it's called a "Harmonica" bridge, or sometimes a wide travel bridge. You can buy them from All Parts or do a search on Ebay for "Harmonica Bridge" and they will turn up for a little bit less (or more). My best guess is that the original finish got wore, so someone primered and painted the back and sides black and preceded to wear it even more. All I know, is that as soon as I saw and played it, I had to have it.
