This is awesome. I got a 63 jag and did not know the original color. It was poorly refinished in black (but with an awesome tort guard, which had shrunk). Even the back of the neck was finished with black. It is neck plate # L22502. Judging from this, it looks like it was most likely sunburst. Wish I had known that, as I would have refinned it in the OG color. I ended up refinishing it in Oly White w matching headstock, which I'm happy with.

You missed my friend's '64 Jag. Serial number is L50945. Painted in Lime Gold metal flake by Denny Swiden, who also painted Dick Dale's Stratocaster.

The story goes is that the original owner had a surf band, and they went and saw Dick Dale at Harmony Park, asked Dick who painted his Strat. Dick said that a guy named Denny Swiden painted it. So, they contacted Denny, and had him paint all their instruments the same color as Dick's guitar, and one of those guitars was my friend's '64 Jag. He's had it since 1979.
