July 1968 Fender P/L lists Jaguar and Coronado (guitar and bass) with the Maple option. I have seen only 1 Coronado (a guitar) with Maple/BBB.
The most expensive Solid Body you could get in 1968 was Lefty Jaguar (+10%) in a Custom Color (+5%) with a Maple/BBB neck (+5%). Base price $409.00 before options. I do remember a lefty in Ocean Turquoise w/ Maple a while back in VG.
Go to WWW.TopShelfMusic.Com and click on Basses. They have a '66 Bass V in LPB M/BBB. I have seen this guitar in person...it's stopped me in my tracks!

Competition Stripes make them play FASTER.

IIRC it was awful. although i could be mistaken, there was another late 60s sunburst jag in the store at the time. this one:zhivago wrote: what was it like?

the way i remember it, the maple one played like crap and was a real icepick soundwise, while the rosewood played and sounded like a dream. but the maple one looks like it´s been played a lot, so it could just as well have been the other way around. this was after all a few years ago :-\

ahhh...I see...well, the maple fretboard would make it brighter, but still, that much of a difference is odd...maybe it was a lemon....a very good looking lemon, that is!!

I'd probably have bought the maple neck one, even if it didn't play well - I'd just assume it was my bad form causing the problem.

I'm starting to come around, but they just look so weird.
