1966 Fender Mustang just arrived ...

Post by Spoonman » Sat Apr 10, 2010 1:12 pm

I've had a couple of vintage Strats I've admired over the years

Was in a studio with a friend who got me addicted to his old Fender Mustang

You probably can guess the rest of the story ... found it for about 600 $ locally

I know everyone has something to say about Pre-CBS post CBS stuff, but I think these are fantastic

:w00t: 600.00??? That's the deal of the week! Nice 'stang too.. Love it. That would be a nice match with my '69 Musicmaster, you should sell it to me. ;)

I have a mastery bridge that could land in it ... but I'm arguing keeping it as is as it kinda has a sister I picked up on ebay a while back ( Jag-stang ) that got the '' pro '' treatment

I was getting impatient ...

Changed the pickguard to a vintage green-guard, Duncan JB and Duncan Hot Rails join the game with a mastery and new pots, switches have been modded to split the buckers or go full on ...

You wouldn't believe the work ...

Overal tho ... worth it ..

FWIW, pre-CBS or not, 1966 was IMHO the ideal year for Mustangs. I have played tons of them and the 66 I owned and the ones that I have played from that year are PERFECT!!!!

Congrats!!!

That first pic reminds me of the cover from the 1970 Fender Catalog.

Really cool guitar! And it seems to be a great deal! At least in Denmark they cost a LOT more! :)

How does a mustang sound? Is it in strat or tele land? perhaps something completely different? Is it short scale?

Mustangs rule. Nuff said.
oh, and good price sir.

I have bad Mustang GAS. The stores on this island never get them in though and it's too expensive to try and get one elsewhere.

some day. some day.

it's a mixture between Jag and Strat, but beefier and raunchier than both of them. so,

yes and yes.

Beautiful Stang. Someday I will get one just like this ... but in white :) Pickups, just adjust them by ear. There are no rules. When you think it sounds better than before, you're done ;)

well, you should set it however you prefer but I think the bridge pickup sounds the best when raised almost all the way up to the strings. then raise the neck pickup to balance with the bridge pickup.
