Just saw this in german forum, and maybe it's interesting for us here too Not mine, and will never be, but still nice: Seems to be an all original 1964 Jaguar in sunburst, condition near mint, and comes with original pay check, dated march '65. The owner asked for an idea on value, and I said 3.000 € + x, whoever he might meet ... was I right? Gruhn lists these between 5.000 and 8,500 $, but that gives no real idea about a possible european price I guess.
and what's this worth? (64 Jag SB)

I've seen that street value is almost always less than Gruhn, sometimes by as much as 50% less.
The thing about Gruhn and other appraisals is that they'll tell you the best case scenario, and it inflates the market artificially. Just look at eBay: those "buy-it-now" asking prices are never realistic if you watch the market for more than a month and see what actual low-reserve auction prices fetch for similar items. Scalpers who sell at the highest prices have a lot of patience to wait for a sucker.
I won't hazard a guess on the value of this jag, but for those who do I don't recommend highballing it, because it's unfair to everyone except investors.

I think typically a vintage guitar is worth about the equivalent in € as it is in $—maybe slightly less. So a $3500 Jazzmaster is probably going to cost in the neighborhood of €3500. IMO that Jag is worth somewhere between $2500-3000 so about that in € seems reasonable and thus your estimate isn't too far off. Of course one can never really be all that certain about these sorts of things.

no, sunburst But didn't hear back from the guy, after stating I can't afford his guitar no matter if he calls a reasonable price ---

Yeah, even in this hectic economy, prices of Vintage Fenders have not come down.
Here locally at the Belgian equivalent of "Craigslist" a '73 Jm is like € 2000,- a "64 Jm (original SB) has an asking price of € 3500,-
Last good deal I saw was years ago, a pre CBS Jag Oly White refin incl case for € 1500,- (sold a bit later for € 1750,- at a shop.)
Even 70's Refin Duo's etc have prices of € 750,- nowadays....
Needless to say, the above mentioned guitars have not sold yet....
