Which colour Competition Mustang shall I get?
Ok, I'm pretty much set on getting a Competition Mustang to finish up the collection.
I also got really bored so put my guitars in colour wheel order against the 3 options. Yeah I know....I was reeeeeally bored.
Which do you think fits the collection best?
Bonus question....matching or non-matching headstock?

Orange with matching headstock is the only compstang I'd ever have.
I got one from HNB about 15 years ago that he'd restored/refinished/whatever from old parts. The only guitar I regret selling fortunately it is with a friend who still loves it dearly.

When it comes to guitars, blue then green then red is basically what I'd pick, given the choice. Burgundy blue is a nice variation so I'd go for that, personally, but to be fair orange stands out more in your collection compared to the others.

I voted red because you put it apart from the Jazzmaster in your mockup. Are you subliminally trying to make it stand out more?
Nothing to do with me having an OCR reissue at all!
If you can swing an orange one, I think that’s the most unique colour.
You’re going to pay Cobain tax on a burgundy. Is it really worth it?
Nah, get the red. It’ll be cheaper and it’s scientifically the best colour.
Every guitar should have a matching headstock.

Orange for me. I hate red guitars and I don't wanna be accidentally associated with KC
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Since you already have red and blue, I'd go with orange -- with matching headstock, of course. Plus I feel like Competition Orange still doesn't get the love than its red and blue counterparts have been getting for decades.

Re: Which colour Competition Mustang shall I get?
Thanks for all the input everyone!
My preference was blue/green, so seems like that's the popular option too...and the most expensive
That one on Reverb is the perfect colour. It's got a route for a humbucker although otherwise all original according to Google translate.
Is £4k steep for a routed body? Or my most realistic chance of not spending £6k on one in this colour. (No way I'd ever spend that or have that money lying around!)

I would say that's actually not a bad price, although you could probably get them to go down a bitwelshywelsh wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 12:25 amThanks for all the input everyone!

I don't seem to be able to choose all three options.

Re: Which colour Competition Mustang shall I get?
£4K seems a lot to me. I’d maybe pay that for a minty one, but then I’m not the market for these guitars. It has been routed for a humbucker, meaning there are questions over how original the circuit is. Which I think the advert acknowledges? Then there’s the general condition. It looks superb to my eyes, but could you get your £4K back if you ever needed to? Who knows what’ll happen to the Cobain tax. What I do know is you can get a very nice 65 Mustang for a lot less and a Duo II for less than that.
Also, it’s £4,346.15 with shipping. Then add 22% (20% VAT because of Brexit + 2% guitar import duty). That’s on the guitar and shipping, so it’ll cost you £5,302.30.
Then the delivery company will charge you a £20 handling fee and hand you a “nobody was in to receive the delivery” while you sit under a 30ft arrow with a flashing neon sign that says “I’m in; I’m here”. Then there’s the swim to Belfast to pick it up.
I’ve a habit of importing guitars. That’s how it goes.
