Re: Should I make this purchase?
I guess I was going to say it's expensive but seems like it's actually priced at the lower end of the asking range. 70's Mustangs are expensive now!
Seems like the sunburst ones cost a little less, this is a nice one also.
I'd bet it's a great guitar, I don't see any red flags, but I'm only so skilled at catching things like refinishes or what have you. But there are other examples of that color on Reverb so it's something Fender was offering and I'd guess it's the original finish just like they say.

Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Maybe have seller lift the control plate so you can see what should be the original white around the edges of the cavity. That's what white does though so nothing odd about that.
What's the deal with a case?

Doesn’t say it comes with one but I will message the seller

Re: Should I make this purchase?
I'm far from a vintage Mustang grand wizard, but without gut shots and neck, body (if any), pickup and pot dates, there's very little in that ad that would confirm that guitar as a mid-70s "Blonde"* Mustang.
It looks vintage, yes, but that's about it.
* I don't have my reference material handy right now, but I think it would've been either White, Olympic White or Natural, not Blonde.

At that age, the body should be finished with poly, right? The pictures show a lot of checking for a poly finish, more like you expect to see with nitro.

Re: Should I make this purchase?
I've got an early '72 Musicmaster bass, also white poly, and it has checked similarly. It's more of a light cream, but definitely no longer white. My '71 Comp Orange Mustang is checked as well IIRC. I'll add some pictures of the bass tomorrow.
There's nothing at all mysterious or suspicious about the aged white finish of this Mustang IMO. Gut shots and additional verification never hurt though, so by all means.

Fair call. I suppose not all poly is created equal.
Perhaps this guitar has had a very exposed life too, as the headstock lacquer is fairly dark.
In any case, I like the look of it.

Offer like $1600 and see if they take it. I have a similar one in Sunburst that is my main guitar, lovely necks on this era.
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Re: Should I make this purchase?
My 75 sunburst stang is definitely poly and has a ton of checking on it, like shit-tons but you can't see it unless you are up close. I'd wager it's just more visible on the white.
