Coronado II pickup switch popping out of the bridge position

Post by smjenkins » Sun Nov 19, 2023 2:05 pm

My Coro II is experiencing an odd behavior where the switch will pop out of the bridge position into the middle position at random times when I'm playing. It will only stay in the bridge position for around 30-seconds. All three positions of the switch are working really well electronically, so this appears to be just a mechanical issue. Any suggestions or ideas to tweak this?

Switch is probably worn down so the edge doesn’t catch as well.
If it’s a traditional toggle switch, it’ll probably have a small rubber or plastic cap inside to push the switching levers.
Borrowing MelWaldorf’s picture to illustrate:

On some switches you can rotate the cap a quarter turn to get some more life out of it. Worth a try. Otherwise a replacement is probably in order. I believe it’s just a typical JM-style toggle switch.

^What he said.
I’ve had it happen to a Jazzmaster in the past. I didn’t bother messing with it, and replaced the switch altogether, after realizing the cause.
You may want to try and salvage the switch, as it’s vintage, but yeah.
