NGD 1968 Fender Jaguar "The Raven"
Things I noticed in comparison with my 1967 and I think it's maybe due to it being a "Special" stamped neck.
The binding is much thicker and rounded (which is super nice) I first thought it was due player wear, now I doubt it.
Rosewood is much darker on the raven than on the 1967.
Pearloids are exceptionally nice. Bright and super nice figuring.
Besides that it needs a clean and a set up. I also want to check the pots because the guitar sounds less lively and twangy than the 1967, especially the replaced bridge pickup.

I'll be taking it apart at the end of next week and reinstalling the copper pickguard

That’s just so cool. Not just because ravens are my favourite birds.
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

The guard on your 67 is super cool. Is it original? The repro guard on the Raven would look a bit dull directly next to such a funky example. Can't wait to see the copper one.

The tort one is a fender USA repro which was put on around 5 years ago when it was brought into a shop for repairs.Zork wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 11:52 amYes!surfin_bird wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 8:42 amI'll be taking it apart at the end of next week and reinstalling the copper pickguard

The copper one has also "RAVEN - Music Workshop Design" engraved so I'll definitely put it back for now haha, the nickname I gave it was already it's name haha.

Are you going to remove the paint on the neck plate and vibrato?

Hmm not sure. I think I will on the neckplate because it's just very messy, chipping and I can't read the serial. Which is something I would like to do.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 2:42 pmAre you going to remove the paint on the neck plate and vibrato?
The paintjob seems much more stable on the tremolo.
I did some pickguard dress-up, after starting to polish the copper pickguard. (you can see the spots going a way but also the nice yellowed golden tint
The Mint pickguard (a chinese copy) makes it very clear that the bridge pickup is a replacement.
I also compared the headstock logo's between the '67 and '68.
Is this correct or is there a chance the '68 (the raven) is just a bit younger?

Gosh that's so hot.
I'd only strip the bridge tailpiece

Re: NGD 1968 Fender Jaguar "The Raven"
I'd say the Raven just happened to get a slightly different decal out of the pile that daysurfin_bird wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 1:46 am

FWIW, The copper pickguard looks sweet.

Logo looks right to me. It’s black instead of gold, which I believe started in 1968
The Bridge pickup looks like a 62 AVRI

I'd agree the neck plate looks a bit crap and would be better stripped, but the painted tremolo really suits the look IMO, I'd keep that

Re: NGD 1968 Fender Jaguar "The Raven"
What a beautiful instrument. I'd strip the paint from the hardware too. It's easy with the alfoil trick. Otherwise I love the copper guard and even the raven, what a name for a guitar.
