Hello nineteen seventy-two...
I got a WhatsApp from fellow forum member simonhpieman earlier today about some gear that had appeared on Facebook Marketplace this morning in the next town over from us just 4 miles away. I won't spoil his thunder with his own NGD but between us we cut a deal with the seller.
I now have (for a very good price) a seemingly all-original 1972
Seller pictures:
It's too late for my usual strip-down analysis but I'll say for now it's possibly the lightest Jazzmaster I've ever picked up. I'll weigh it tomorrow to be sure. No original case but bridge and vibrato arm are present.
Big thanks to Simon for securing these until we could go back tonight to collect, and for doing the driving back and forth OSG family keeping things as they should be. Stay tuned for strip and service/gutshots!

Oh fuck! That's my birth year. Awesome! Hope
It's a good one. It looks pretty damn nice, even for a SB.

Re: Hello nineteen seventy-two...
simohpieman's money-spending enablement service at your, er, service...
Already looks right at home. Agree that it weighs really little for a JM. I'll have to bring my 75 over for a party and compare notes but mine's definitely heavier. Although my 1970 is remarkably light, too...
Anyway, I have a really good feeling about that guitar. It sounded absolutely spot on when I tried it.
I have a theory re those necks with the ever-so-slightly misshaped headstock to the bottom left of the "F" in Fender, in that I assume they're all the same profile? My 75 is pretty identical, as I think was my old LPB 73 with the same cut whereas my 70 has a baseball bat MF of a neck and no weird head shape.
I'm not in a position to take photos in my dark house but I'll add to the thread asap and introduce you all to the Miami-stang!

Just looked at some photos and realised I might be talking nonsense and that the extra text underneath the decals just makes it look off, rather than it actually being off!simonhpieman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 3:22 pm

Re: Hello nineteen seventy-two...
i had thought the gear market on facebook had died a death once they launched "marketplace" (ie gumtree but much, much worse than the already-shite gumtree). nice to know treasure can still be found!

Re: Hello nineteen seventy-two...
Thanks everyone I'm definitely pleased with it so far. It cost me only a fraction more than a new AVII66 sells at so definitely got a good deal. I generally hate sunbursts but a custom colour JM is fast becoming beyond silly money so this will have to do.
I can always gets it refinished I guess
Anyway, without further ado...
I did say it was light! 7lbs 15oz light to be precise!...
3-piece body. Nice-ish grain too
Replacement screw alert...
Pots are all a mix of 1966 CTS. Wiring seems all original bar a little wiring splice on the neck pickup...
Pickups look about right...
13JUN71B is what that seems to say, seems about right. Truss rod has been abused a little but the neck itself seems perfect...
J.CHAMBERS (a familiar name) in the pocket...
Main flaw is the volume knob has had its thread crossed on the grub screw. Guess I'll try and find a replacement...
As it stands after a dust and piled board...

I guess I gotta decide what leaves the fold now. Jaguar or Coronado?...
