Haven't read it all or tried to open the pics, but I remember seeing/having WEBRIGHT stamps on late 60s/early 70s Jag necks. Blocks and bound.
I'm pretty certain my 77 Musicmaster Bass neck had it on there too.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Googling of “webright neck stamp” reveals several photos that look similar to this neck at the base, and all appear to be mid-70s. Backs up the story other have mentioned about it being a genuine Fender neck (of some sort).

My guess is this was a 70s MM neck that had some work done, possibly at the fender factory or by a very skilled luthier,
The gap at the bottom of the skunk stripe is pretty janky..squared off against the rounded route in the neck - unless that's what they all were like? I haven't had my hands on many 70s striped necks TBF. Looks unfinished or done relatively amateurishly...which wouldn't be unusual for late 70's Fender :D
We ARE talking about CBS here ;) . The 4 digit neck stamp on mine (4662) puts us at the end of 1976. I'll dive in more tomorrow but it looks like that janky end of the skunk stripe is also found on other original 1976 Mustang Necks
I would say someone got ahold of a cheap old Musicmaster/Bronco/Mustang neck that had a broken truss rod and had someone fit (or fitted themselves) a new one in there via the back with a headstock access, then someone converted back to heel access (for whatever reason), slapped it on a refin'd old Jag body with a cluster of new, repro and vintage parts then it eventually made it into the OP's hands.

That's a total educated guess, mind you, and would be a very convoluted story. But stranger has been seen.
Close! But doesn't have to be so convoluted. Fender Mustang necks (24in) had some models with skunk stripes 1976-1978!
Will dive in more tomorrow.

Ok.. I couldn't go to sleep till I found one with a rosewood fretboard and pearloid inlay.... And there’s my neck!
Good night!

Yeah!

Presumably yours also has the side dots fully on the maple, rather than half onto the rosewood?

I had weird recollections of stripes on Mustang necks but didn't remember them having headstock access. Mystery solved!

I was going to say mid 70s Mustang or Musicmaster neck but you guys figured it out. I like that guitar! How does it play and sound?

Looks like we can call this case cracked boys!

Some might not be interested in this but i thought it was neat.. To further nerd out, i believe i can say with relative certainty the neck was made in 1976.. Look at the circular stamp that has been half rubbed away.. its the stamp indicating when the instrument was QC checked.. you'll see "/R/R" which actually would have said "F/R/R" initially and stood for Fender/Rogers/Rhodes. (Fender is obvious, Rogers was a drum company owned by Fender, and Rhodes would be their electric keyboard division, indicating they used these QC stamps across all of their facilities at the time)
you can just barely see the last 2 digits of the 4 digit date code that would have been stamped, which follows the format of WWYD (Week, Week, Year, Day) and appears to end with a 6 and an 8
So yours was QC checked on the 8th day of some month in 76, meaning it was likely assembled the same year.

Sadly i dont know if there will ever be a way to tell for sure if its a mustang or musicmaster neck as these are basically identical down to headstock and shaft shape, construction etc with the only difference being the headstock decal which is gone. But given that ive never seen a 70s MM neck with a skunk stripe and no bullet truss rod, but now i officially HAVE seen a 76 mustang with those specs, it would seem this neck is indeed..

a 1976 Mustang neck!

Internet sleuthing is fun or i am a huge nerd (probably both haha)
