I don't really get these kind of threads/responses.

You ask what you should reasonably price it at... then respond that you wouldn't take the figures suggested.

The mind boggles.

I wanted opinions, which is a natural part of discussion. One such opinion suggested a price I am unwilling to sell at. I think that's exactly what I was after, OSG's thoughts on a "reasonable price" which is purely subjective at this point in this market. I decided I'm not willing to sell at 4k but I would sell at 6k. Seems like regular vintage guitar discussion to me...

Seems like a classic "How much is this worth?"/cue not the number they hoped to hear situation. Lots of people incorrectly think they're sitting on solid gold with collectable things.

"What do you mean this Carl Yastrzemski baseball card isnt worth what all the others are selling for?! It's only had the eyes cut out of it and been recoloured in felt-tip pen!!"

FWIW, I was just offered a deal on a 63 Jazzmaster, all original bar a refin for $6500 by a guitar shop. in Portland. No routing, no rewound pickups...just the refin (and not a kinda iffy relic'd one either).
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Yeah, no disrespect to the OP. But I don't think 'opinions' come into it either.

OP's 'opinion' is that it's worth way more than the market dictates it is. I don't see how opinions are relevant. Not saying it's not worth £6k to yourself, OP, but the fact is that it's not worth that within the context of the current market. Case in point- I recently sold a Les Paul that, despite being literally the best LP I've ever played and kicking the shit out of the Gibson Custom Shop equivalent, and RRP being £2200... only sold for £1300. I had it listed higher, it didn't sell. Therefore really it was only worth £1300 (this was not a quick sale either). My opinion does not override the consumer's willingness to purchase at any given price.

I work in a shop and the amount of people who come in looking to sell something on consignment, then being in disbelief at the actual worth of the thing (despite not having done the fucking slightest bit of research, yet swearing it's definitely worth more than we tell them, despite us literally having over 100 years experience between us...).

It just seems to be happening a lot recently, ha.

Even in 2022, I still see folks on my town's local Craigslist asking $4,500 for Beanie Babies, or asking $30,000 for an actual penny.

Granted, there's still a big difference between delusion, and simply dreamin'. I'd say $6K for a refinished, semi-original, bitched-up Jazzmaster is a better example of the latter. With any overvalued asset, people started overpaying for even the fringe/low-quality examples, too. But like a dying star collapsing on its own inflation, I wonder if the Jazzmasters have finally, mercifully, hit a soft ceiling. Not that the sunken-cost fallacy will permit many prices to drop.

Anybody thirsty? Kinda tastes like strawberries.

IMHO - Whatever it gets listed or sold for doesn't really matter - the question is - Acknowledge that You will never get it back.

If you are OK with that - then proceed. If not...

I have sold a few guitars for stupid reasons and instantly regretted it - and still do, but at the same time there were a couple that i held onto too long and it was like a weight being lifted off.

That's really cool you were able to get close to what you were hoping to get. With the market being as bonkers/all over the place as it is, it's such a hard thing to figure out. I've looked at selling a few things recently, but they'd have sold for quite a bit less, and I decided that, between the Reverb fees and shipping costs, it simply wasn't worth the effort for me to sell them right now.

Thanks. Yeah it was just time to let one go and I got really close to my asking price, so I'm satisfied all around.
