So, in my (prescription) drug-addled haze I bought a Musicmaster...
Usually I drink too much Fortaleza tequila and go Reverb-diving but booze is off the menu these days. Turns out that I can be just as reckless on the little white tablets the neurologist gave me too I woke up with this waiting to be paid for:
1978, rattlecan-black. Hopefully it's got one of the fabled baseball bat late-70s MM necks I've long desired. My long-standing plan has been to get hold of one of these cheap (I paid a woefully small amount for this, about the same as one of those "Offset Series" Duo-Sonics were new ) and move the pickup to the bridge position, either using the existing one or picking something else snappy and bright.
I'm guessing, seeing as someone repainted it black that it must have started out life white. I might paint it Tahitian Coral (If I can find a source for that colour in nitro cans). I might keep it black. I don't really know yet.

I was just looking at this Musicmaster today and thought it was a great deal. Money’s tighter than ever, though, so not for me. Great score!

Yeah, I couldn't really pass it up once the seller started the haggling process with me. Any vintage Fender sub-£500 is a bit of a no-brainer really, even with a shonky refin.HedonismBot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 11:44 pmI was just looking at this Musicmaster today and thought it was a great deal. Spoken to the seller, he's going to delay shipment until I'm back from Slovenia so that gives me plenty of time to mull over colour and pickup choices

minus the wide range in the neck and modding it for a super hot singlecoil....... you just bought one of my dream guitars.

Ah, the MM from Reunion island! I had been watching it and playing "let's see if I can scrape up the money before it sells to someone else"... A game I always lose
Glad it went to a fellow OSG member!
Can I call dibs if it does?

I secretely hope it hasn't, and we see it turn up in the FSOT section soon...johnnysomersett wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 10:03 pmHopefully it's got one of the fabled baseball bat late-70s MM necks I've long desired.

Sweet. I’m generally a fan of leaving things as-is, but that finish looks awful.
How about CFM?

I have handled one of these Musicmasters before. i remember the black factory finish feeling "rubbery" like the paint had never cured. It's probably why a lot of these guitars were stripped.

Yes! He does indeed seem a lovely chap!
Maybe I should paint it CAR and start a paradox?
Someone always does, looks like you got dibs this time!
I love them in their natural 'murdered-out' look but, indeed, that is a terrible job. CFM is a great suggestionmarqueemoon wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 2:41 pmSweet. I’m generally a fan of leaving things as-is, but that finish looks awful.

The white ones are the same...like a strong fingernail would leave a dent. Rubbery is the correct word, almost like the surface of those disposable 'grippy' work gloves.CROSS_guitars wrote: ↑Thu Aug 04, 2022 4:45 pmI have handled one of these Musicmasters before. i remember the black factory finish feeling "rubbery" like the paint had never cured. I can see a messy and smelly day of paint-stripping in my future!
