In later t.v. appearances I would see him with the Pensa-Suhr. I know he also favored Soldano amps later on. Pointy guitars with humbuckers and Soldado amps were more what we expected of the contemporary metal and rock guys of the time. He used pedals to cop the VU sound and his beloved old brownface deluxe (especially the tremolo) his favorite until he blew up the speaker.

When I saw the reformed Velvets, the guitar sound was not right at all - way too smooth, clean and processed. Out of all the groups who reformed, I had thought the Velvets would pull it off convincingly but not at all.

I believe the XII (not sure if it’s Lou or Sterling) was used on “Who Loves The Sun” and “Rock & Roll”.

Lou didn't play much guitar on Loaded. A lot of it is Doug Yule, believe it or not. I think Sterl's part on "Who Loves the Sun" is the intricate little acoustic riff that runs through the verses. Sterl takes the rhythm part on "Rock & Roll" and the solo is Doug. That might be Lou's XII doing the rhythm part on "I Found a Reason."

Lou's XII is probably most audible on "Pale Blue Eyes" and "Beginning to See the Light" (rhythm guitar, on "Pale Blue Eyes" with the tone knob all the way down) and "What Goes On" (solos) on the 3rd album, and live performances of "I Can't Stand It."

I recall an interview where he said he was playing a Fender Danny Gatton CS Tele. He was really into Gatton, but i couldn’t hear any influence in his playing.

I had an Electric XII that looked just like that one. Played great
