Isn’t there some exceptionally rare JMs from ‘82? Dan Smith features possible employees guitars made from remaining parts. I’ve definitely seen one or two…

I was under the impression a solitary one was made for a retiring long-standing employee. I did some hard deep-diving a few years back for a birthyear (82) JM and came away feeling sad about that fact that I discovered.

I think by the late-70s, pretty much every new Jazzmaster looked like that. Each time I see one, I still think "Wow, that looks just like mine!"

This one's been with me 5 years. I got fired from a horrible job and received a nice cashout from my unused vacation time, so I decided to splurge on something I'd wanted since the 90s -- a vintage Jazzmaster! But even in 2017, any custom color example was out of my league. Even the pre-CBS sunbursts were unaffordable to a guy like me.

I probably could've scraped together the buxx for a completely worn-out/beat-to-death late-60s sunburst in need of a refret, but I took the more financially-cautious route and worked out a great deal on this pristine late-70s case queen that looks/feels like it's never been played at all.

A 70s Jazzmaster seemed like the cheapest way into a full-scale vintage Fender. Considering there are currently zero 70s Jazzmasters on Reverb right now, I guess a lot of other folks had the same idea.

You did well - I like the sound of later Jazzmasters they have a different tone to other eras.

I had a few older Fenders but back around 2008 had a bit of a life meltdown and had to sell them all. Took another 6 years to get another guitar. Just a few months ago I finally splurged on a ‘65 JM L series which to be honest I’ll still be paying for in a year!

Thanks! And I'm sure most of us have been there with the unexpected life meltdown. I know I have... :(

By the late-90s, I had a sexy red Jazzmaster, a classy SG Custom, a vintage Mustang Bass, a couple vintage ARP synths, an old RE-201 Space Echo, plus a nice amp rig and a bunch of vintage Boss pedals. And then within a few months, it was alllllllll gone.

Started over again around 2002 with an AVRI Jazzmaster, and I've been fortunate to (mostly) keep what I've managed to find since. But it still stings to think about losing that Mustang Bass -- I sold it for $200. :fp:

More of a partsmaster, to be fair.
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.
