Vintage Competition Mustang Question

Hey hope you're all safe and sound.

There is something that's been bothering me for a while now....

I have explored the world of offsets since mid 2000s when I was a teenager and I have a memory of reading about/seeing pictures of:

Vintage Competition Mustang with a Stripe that goes around the entire body so there is a stripe on the back of it as well.

I have thought this may be the "Mandela Effect" I am experiencing however, recently I have watched Michael Lemo on Norman's Rare Guitars YT channel reviewing a competition Mustang and he said that some of them had that feature.

I tried looking for any info/photos online to no avail.

Can someone confirm if there were Mustangs with a competition stripe that goes around the body or alternatively confirm I have gone mad?

Thanks Offset Fam!

Jack

They definitely exist.

There's a member on this forum, Fenderbob, who's had at least one of them.

I owned three of them and have seen about ten examples of in my 25 years of geeking out on 24" scale fenders.
My thought are that Fender thought it was too tedious to line up the stripes at the edges and settled for front only to expedite production.

PS - The first one I had with back stripes even had a different decal than other comp mustangs. Had a oversized gold decal which also was super rare.

So I haven’t gone mad. Thanks for confirming. Yes I would suspect that Fender stopped this due to cost.

I've seen this on both red and blue comp stangs. Would love to see back stripes on a yellow example. Terry Foster (well known Fender Aficionado) tells me they do exist. :w00t:

US models are 10-32, so it's probably going to be close to that. M5x0.8 would be my guess. Once you identify the thread positively you can buy the appropriate grub screw at McMaster-Carr.

You're most welcome and good luck. Orbital Fasteners. If you confirm the thread that works, let us know because you won't be the only person needing one.

It’s a standard M5 thread turns out.

Wrong!

M5 screw fits my MIM Jag-Stang but CV Mustang uses an imperial thread UNF 10-32!

Who would have known?
