Jag 1963 neck and 1964 body

Post by Guitarman555 » Mon Apr 18, 2022 1:45 pm

Hi, need an advice, what do you think about this neck? Seems not really well done, iregural shape. And colour of rosewood in this case not very dark, also not a good sign right? A seller is trying to sell me jag, but it has several issues, including there was body repair a long time ago. Thanks!

Kinda looks like this thing:
https://reverb.com/item/42657886-vintag ... uitar-body
But I wouldn't have the first clue how to prove that a repainted slab of wood was ever an "all original" 1964 Jaguar. And even if it was, are we really at a point now where people are paying a grand for a refin body-only?

Back to your guitar, that neck does looks suspicious. If it were just the shape, or just the stamp, or just the grain, or just the font of the B -- and that's just the heel. What's the rest of the neck look like? I'm no expert, but all of those things at the same time would give me pause.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this one?

I've seen the font of that B on other Fenders I think:

We need a lot more photos than the ones given to make any sort of decent judgement on it though. To my eye the rosewood lam board looks right, as does the date stamp, but I am in no way an expert.

This is my '62, also lam board. My date stamp is very aged and nearly worn off, but hopefully the shape etc can be of some help:

The frets on that neck look like they'd cut your hands to ribbons.

The B font looks fine to me. There are 2 obvious versions out there that I've seen, with and without the serifs. My '64 has them
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

Many thanks. What do you think about shape if venneer close to left and right edge of neck? Seems unusual and non-regular, inaccurate job. Not seen on other jags from era...
And how sbout body repair and black light pic?
I will add new pics too.

As J said above, the fretjob looks shocking. The shape of the veneer looks fine, I think it's just the angle the photo was taken at, but could be wrong.

Can't help with the body repair, need more pics with as much detail as possible.
