I always thought his Competition Mustang had the cigar tube flipped and hard tailed but it looks like its just hard tailed with no flipped cigar tube. His sonic blue and fiesta red Mustang's are hard tailed with the flipped cigar tubes though.

Say we round that up to $15M....

Most users ever online was 4506 on Mon Jan 20, 2020 7:05 am

If we get 4500 users to kick in $3,333.33 each we could get a bid in on this.

And if we win, the guitar gets cut up into 4500 pieces, so we can all have a fragment for our shrines!

Burning it & dividing up the ashes might be a better way of doing this, otherwise everyone will want a stripy piece.

Cheaper postage too! ;)

I'm not even really a Nirvana fan, truth be told.

I own a couple of their records but they were bought for me on the (incorrect) assumption I was a fan.
Silly Rabbit, don't you know scooped mids are for kids?

I can understand that. I like Nirvana pretty well, but I do think they were way over-hyped in the the 90's.

Haha, yeah I’m just a casual fan. The shrine comment was tongue in cheek…although i am now envisaging how a guitar cut into 4500 bits might look. They’d be pretty small fragments!

Idk if you could reasonably say overhyped. They were THE hype, the foundation upon which the first half of the decade’s pop industry/typical exploitation was built and they were promoted like it. I’ve always viewed it as a double edged sword - a lot of people were able to get into music they otherwise would have never found, but in return the culture I loved and upon which a large part of my life is built was gutted and exploited and bastardized. Saying it out loud, maybe just a single edged sword I wouldn’t wanna hold. I’m just saying, it’s not like they were a diamond in the weeds that people only now look back on and pile praise the same way a lot of people do with, say, My Bloody Valentine. They were the lightning in a bottle, fresh take on an old formula thing for their time that they grown ups were all too happy to squeeze out the pennies from

Any discount for the neck being broken off and repaired?

Very interesting how crazy that show was, Kurt breaks his prized mustang, bounces his jaguar off the bouncers head, then after the show they narrowly escape the stitched up bouncer who is out for revenge. As they jump into the cab to make a getaway, Dave gets left behind! but somehow avoids any conflict and gets a ride from a fan back to their hotel.

Also here is the promoter and bouncer talking about it

Yep, by all accounts they had just reached a boiling point in that tour and things came to a head in Dallas, sparked by the aggressive bouncer.

Oddly it appears that Kurt babied this compstang, apart from this one incident. After it was repaired (by Fall ‘92) he only used it for special one-off shows in Seattle, and a couple dates in South America. Supposedly it was going to be the guitar used for the Heart Shaped Box video but Kurt couldn’t find it.

It’s also the only Mustang he ever gigged that wasn’t routed for a full size humbucker.

Didn’t he use a Greco Mustang in the early days & used a rh mustang at a gig too?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

It wasn’t a Greco, that was some homemade Mustang copy, and IIRC it had a humbucker. (The sub pop In Bloom video).

He had a sunburst 70s Mustang for a hot minute in ‘89 that was single coils and gigged a bit, yeah. But not long as it was smashed.

Any right handed Mustang would have been borrowed, likely from Steve Turner.
