NVGD 1963 Jaguar
I’m pleased to say that I finally joined the vintage offset gang this week with the acquisition of this beautiful 1963 Jaguar from a shop in Melbourne, Australia.
Neck and body dates point to February ‘63 so it’s an early one.
It needed a pretty thorough setup on arrival, but I’m happy with where I’ve got it to over a period of about three days. If anyone has tips on how to deodorise an old Fender hardshell case, drop a comment below! That’s the next project on the list.

That's exactly how an old offset should look.
Congratulations

Looks lovely, congrats on the new guitar. There's nothing finer than an early 60's Jaguar, they hold some serious vibes that resonate when playing
I used these air fresheners when growing something particularly smelly and it worked wonders at stopping my house from smelling. It neutralises odours so I'd hope it would be a permanent fix too.

Congrats & enjoy! Looks like your Jag has had quite the life. The stories it could tell! I also have a Feb '63 Jag, but it had been refinished by a previous owner (see avatar).
What makes you think so? What would be the tell tale signs?

Looks fantastic. Congrats!
Some silica packs will help with the odor.

The red/black burst is way too pronounced. But hey I might be wrong...Surfysonic wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 9:48 amCongrats & enjoy! Looks like your Jag has had quite the life. The stories it could tell! I also have a Feb '63 Jag, but it had been refinished by a previous owner (see avatar).

I'm not sure it is. Here's a few examples, all from 1963, for comparison:

Re: NVGD 1963 Jaguar
From what I've seen of early '60s bursts in the past, it's common for the red/black burst to be too pronounced. Having a quick look at a Reverb search from '62 - '65, some '63s, '64s, and '65s were far less subtle than the '62s and some '63s.Pacafeliz wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:16 amThe red/black burst is way too pronounced. Just the perfect amount of wear for a sunburst IMO, lovely guitar.

The lighting in my living room is also accentuating the darker / warmer colours in the finish. Here's the Jag on my "workbench" (the dining room table):Surfysonic wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 12:29 pmFrom what I've seen of early '60s bursts in the past, it's common for the red/black burst to be too pronounced. Re: NVGD 1963 Jaguar
It looks like a pretty typical target burst to me. A look under the hood would probably answer the question. In either case it’s lovely — congrats!
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Awesome and congrats again! I've got some amber Edison bulbs in my home office's overhead light/fan fixture, so some of my gear tends to look a bit amberish when I take gear photos at night.ohm_mho wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 2:51 pmThe lighting in my living room is also accentuating the darker / warmer colours in the finish.
