I got this in trade from dugwolf and I LOVE it. Seriously do. I have more guitars than I should have. The info on it is here:
This is a Partsmaster made up of a mix of some vintage and some new parts. The body is from a vintage 59-62 Jazzmaster. I purchased it from howdo3313 here on OSG. It was refinished in sherwood green by MJT. The neck is from a 66 Fender Coronado. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Antiquity II retrospected. It has a mastery bridge and all other random components are genuine Fender. It sounds and plays great. It weighs 7.8 lbs.
The neck is slimmer and has the small vintage frets. The back of the headstock is stamped "SPECIAL." Not sure what that means. The tuners are stiff. I might look into how to lubricate them. They turn, just really stiffly. I LOVE the pickups. The pickups are amazing. Antiquity II's are my favorite Jazzy pickup and these are amazing. I guess retrospected means the same as the originals but non-aged looking. All the controls work great. I love Mastery so that is a cool thing with it. MJT did a great job with the finish. It is a nice deep green like I like for Sherwood. Can't complain. I love having the Coronado II neck on it.
Anyways, here are pictures.

Here it is next to the modern MJT one I got this week. The modern one is more turquoise compared to this one.

Oh and the neck also has some pretty sweet birdseye maple on it.

That’s lovely.
The ONE complaint I have about my JM is the neck is slimmer than I’d like. If it were chunkier with a slightly wider nut, I certainly wouldn’t complain. I think most people prefer the slimmer profiles, so I’m probably an outlier.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I like Japanese necks and those tend to be slimmer, so to me, it was instantly loved.
I do know some people prefer a more typical or even fuller C shape. I tend to like D shaped necks that are a little flatter on the back.

My favorite neck is the ‘U’ shape on my Tele. So yeah, fatter is better for me.

I have been super lucky with these two. I hardly ever get guitars that I don't feel the need to change something. This Jazzmaster is the best one I have ever played. I love it.

IIRC, guitars stamped “SPECIAL” were made for trade shows.
UPDATE: From Jim Shine by way of the TDPRI:
"There are a couple of stamps I should mention real quick. On some mid-60's guitars the necks and sometimes bodies are stamped "SPECIAL", "DEMO", or "NAMM". Special stamps are by far the most common of all and are likely promotional instruments given away by Fender. Demo stamped guitars were likely salesman samples they took on the road to show dealers. NAMM stamped guitars were for exhibition at the NAMM shows. All of these guitars appear to be standard instruments with no special attention or specs. These stamps tend to appear on 1966-1967 Coronado and Electric 12 instruments (first years of production, so the promotion for those was heavy), but I have seen them on all models at least once. "

I have a "SPECIAL" stamped one, and that's the story I have always heard. I've always wondered who got these? Dealers they were trying to butter up? Artists? Reviewers? Obviously it would be cool to be able to trace it back to who it was given to originally, but that seems unlikely.

For sure! I hope you love the Les Paul. It was awesome also. I just ended up not being a fan of the body shape personally. Also it was so unmodded that I was worried about doing anything to damage it. LOL
