Strange vintage Fender Jaguar jazzmaster case

Post by TheGroke » Thu Jan 06, 2022 2:13 pm

Hi. Does anyone recognize this case? I was told it was a Selmer, but it has Fender hardware and stitching. Weird inserts. Weird mix of alligator and regular tolex. Doesn't really fit the jaguar. A mystery!

Is there a lot hinging on the outcome of this?
I have nothing to offer anybody, except my own confusion?

No pun intended, right?

I'm just curious actually. Perhaps it's a better question for some Fender collectors forum..

I was just about to suggest this too. I think I read somewhere that G&G was started by former Victoria Luggage employees too

On OSG that’s almost always the case.

Technically yes, one of the founders of G&G was a senior employee at Victoria Luggage and bought the company with another partner (the other “G”) to form G&G Quality Case company.

So it’s sort of a second chapter of the same company, and the cases are largely built the same way that Victoria Luggage did, apart from some modern updates, especially to the interior.

All of the West Coast guitar brands used Victoria Luggage cases, including Fender, Rickenbacker and Mosrite. The case in this thread is post-1966 because of the contour inserts inside (earlier ones were just an open rectangle), and the exterior material is black and not faux alligator case, as earlier Mosrite cases had.

Depending on the measurements, it would have fit a Ventures model (Mark 1 or V).

WOW... you all are incredible. OK, so this is definitely not a Jaguar case, it's a Ventures model (Mark 1 or V). But it shares features with Fender cases because it's the same company that made some 60s cases? Yes?

And you all really know how to spring into action, latch onto a problem, and provide the key to the solution! (sal took up all the good ones... but I can work with the scraps)
