Yeah I think about it kinda like if it were fully stripped, $1,000 is still a great price, so even if it’s a bummer and they stripped off all the original finish and covered it in their dumb shit, it’s just a matter of getting it scraped off. Then it becomes a great platform to do a Competition Burgundy refin, or maybe even something really bonkers like a big flake silver sparkle or something.
It’s not like I’m clamoring for a Mustang anyway. I’d only be getting this cuz it’s around me and it’s affordable. Not a lot of opportunities to snag a vintage Fender of any kind for a grand.

To be fair, I didn't take a great deal of notice of the price in your comment. A thousand bucks is definitely worth a chance on then if you don't mind refinishing it.Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 5:01 pmYeah I think about it kinda like if it were fully stripped, $1,000 is still a great price, so even if it’s a bummer and they stripped off all the original finish and covered it in their dumb shit, it’s just a matter of getting it scraped off. personally I'd keep it realistic ... no competition finishes in '65, and I'm a sucker for the blue they came in, but I'd be equally likely to play it a bit for a couple of months then sell it for a profit and buy something else. My girlfriend calls it the 'guitar go round'Mechanical Birds wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 5:01 pmYeah I think about it kinda like if it were fully stripped, $1,000 is still a great price, so even if it’s a bummer and they stripped off all the original finish and covered it in their dumb shit, it’s just a matter of getting it scraped off. Yeah, agreed, I’d prefer to keep it as close to a comparable one available at the same time. BUT, the Competition Burgundy, especially the really heavy purple content, might be my favorite finish ever, and if I’m gonna have to shell out a big chunk of change either way, might as well go for what I’d like looking at the best, right?
I guess I could always part it out and use the neck on an MJT Jag build, couldn’t i?!

I sold an early 60's p bass to M&M a while back (pre-covid) for a decent price (comparable to other listings at that time). They cleaned it up a bit a re-listed it for more than double the price. Crazy.

semi-related question but have they ever sold a fender modern player jazzmaster? i'm trying to figure out why the prices on those have went insane because i always wanted to turn one of the red ones into a jazzblaster but can't find them anymore for less than £600 (which is funny because they were only like £400 new) hell, there's one on ebay atm with an asking price of £955. i wonder if m&m have pushed the prices up.

I just looked through their sold listings and the only modern player they've sold was a Teles_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 3:53 amsemi-related question but have they ever sold a fender modern player jazzmaster? i'm trying to figure out why the prices on those have went insane because i always wanted to turn one of the red ones into a jazzblaster but can't find them anymore for less than £600 (which is funny because they were only like £400 new) hell, there's one on ebay atm with an asking price of £955. i wonder if m&m have pushed the prices up.

People are getting a little nuts, I just got ~$650 off of a 2001 AVRI 62 Jazzmaster that was sitting on reverb for months at almost $3k with no bites. I think when the rubber meets the road people will take a more reasonable price

Doesn't hurt to ask high. Even if you're only expecting to sell an item for $2500, might as well see if someone out there is willing to pay $3k.

i don't think he realizes, just because different models were played by all those different artists, doesn't mean his is worth that much. hell, even if THIS EXACT GUITAR was played by ALL those artists, i don't think it would be worth that much (joe bonermatter would drop the price down to -£300k for me.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:42 amHow’s this for a high price though?

also, as is tradition, whenever i mention him, i've got to post this
p.s. if anyone knows the youtube video that comes from, we both clearly have a pretty warped sense of humor.

I think even M&Ms would vomit a little at the utter preposterous garbage in this description.adamrobertt wrote: ↑Sat Dec 04, 2021 7:42 amHow’s this for a high price though?

I mean, it's no surprise that this kind of guitar is definitely what people think of when asked about EVH. Totally. But also nice to see Keith Richards mentioned as well. Being such a notable Explorer player I'm not surprised though
Please, sir, pass that crack pipe around so we can all enjoy some of that madness.
