1967 CBS Jazzmaster Tuners

Hi all,

Quick question ... I'm considering buying a 1967 Jazzmaster and I noticed it has Kluson tuners rather than the F plate CBS tuners which are on all my other post CBS Fender guitars.

The back of the headstock didn't have the normal extra holes you get when someone changes out the F tuners and they look original. So I started having a look around at other 66 - 68 Jazzmasters and noticed a few of them have the klusons but not all ??

I'm guessing this is a known thing right? Why did they not change them on Jazzmasters?? Its seems from 68 onwards the F style ones are there on all of them.

This is normal for transition era. Quite common with d&b necks but not as common with b&b. Any picture? Expecially of the neck code/ date?

That is ok. I have klusons on my 66 jazmaster and f-tuners on my 66 Jaguar

The first "F" tuners were made by Fender, then later they sourced them from Schaller. I suspect that they may not have been able to produce all the tuners needed for production, so continued to use Klusons until either the supply ran out, or "F" tuner production was high enough to allow them to stop buying Klusons. Isn't that the same time period for the square pearl button Grovers?
