I'm going to go in the don't do it camp. 67 is still a good year (if you like blocks and binding it's probably 1 of the 2 best years).
Partsmaster build really feels like the way to go, here...

Meh. I say don't do it. If it was truly a keeper you wouldn't want to switch the pickups, would you?
Also you say that '67 isn't a desirable year because it's CBS but I think that's real short sighted considering the fact that the vintage guitar market is currently fucking exploding, and it's not like the thing is gonna get younger or more common over time... someday in the not too distant future that '67 will be just as desirable as a '62 is now...
I don't mind modding old guitars if they're already beat up/modded... but if this thing is in original condition, even if it isn't factory fresh, I'd say don't do it. Not necessarily for the $$ concerns, either... just doesn't seem right. Idk. But at the end of the day it's your guitar I guess?

Id do it, if you arent afraid of missing the value and maybe the hate of the next future owner..
If you think the mod makes it more musically for you, than go for it?!

Actually, the more I think about it, how's about first do the same mod to the newer IBM Jaguar you got to do this mod on, and if you like the concept of a Jaguar with WRHBs as much as you expect to, then sell that one off (I'm thinking there's a ton of speculative buyers on here) and proceed with the '67?
Plenty of people stuck Jazzmaster pickups in Jaguars and vice versa and didn't end up liking the sound too much. Like just eliminate the risk that you mod a 60's Fender just to found out that no, something is missing and this was indeed a mistake.

Well, I've kind of decided I may well keep that IBM anyway. The more I play it the more I think I'll be annoyed if I let it go. It won't be easy to find another in IBM with the matching headstock, or for the same money I got that one for.Ceylon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:15 amActually, the more I think about it, how's about first do the same mod to the newer IBM Jaguar you got to do this mod on, and if you like the concept of a Jaguar with WRHBs as much as you expect to, then sell that one off (I'm thinking there's a ton of speculative buyers on here) and proceed with the '67?

This may well be the way I play this in the end. It might take a while to find a pair of vintage WRHBs for the right money anyway.

I don't think I could do it if it was mine. I do generally believe that if you're the owner you can do what you want, but I would not be able to do it.

I'm in the "just get a project body" camp...but if it worked out, I might just modify the original.

Seems like a good way to light a bunch of money on fire on the gamble that you actually like the reality as much as the concept.
Jags are very warm sounding. WRHBs are very warm sounding. WRHBs in a Jag will not sound how they've ever sounded to you in a JM or Tele.
But ultimately, I'm just a stranger on the internet and you can do what you want.

I'm team don't do it.
You can get a nice MJT guitar for like, a grand plus electronics. I'm pretty sure they'll rout for WRHB's too.
